Job description

Your Opportunity:

Emergency Health Services – Alberta (EHS-AB) is one of Canada’s largest integrated emergency medical systems, providing care to over 750,000 Albertans annually through a province-wide network that includes dispatch, ground ambulance, aeromedical response, and specialized clinical programs. As a Vehicle Equipment Supply Service Technician (VESST), you will support EMS operations by ensuring ambulances, medical equipment, and critical supplies are safe, compliant, and ready for service. Working within a provincial team, you will contribute to the expansion of the VESST pilot program by supporting operational readiness through logistics coordination, inventory management, stakeholder engagement, and continuous improvement initiatives. This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy hands-on work, problem solving, and making a meaningful contribution to public safety. No two days are the same. You may coordinate vehicle repairs, inspect and maintain medical equipment, distribute supplies, support emergency preparedness activities, and collaborate with operational leaders to keep resources deployment-ready across Alberta. The VESST role provides an opportunity to combine healthcare knowledge, mechanical aptitude, and logistics expertise in a fast-paced environment. You will work with specialized equipment and fleet technologies, travel throughout Alberta as required, and contribute directly to EMS operational excellence and patient care. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, Emergency Health Services currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay. This posting may be used to fill multiple positions.

Description:

As a Vehicle Equipment Supplies Service Technician (VESST), you will assist with daily fleet maintenance activities and coordinate the movement of vehicles to and from vendors. You will ensure that spare vehicles are clean, fully equipped, and supplied as required in accordance with established inventory standards and regulations. In this role, you will be responsible for the inspection and repair of equipment (e.g., power cots, power loads, suction units). You will prioritize, schedule, and complete vehicle and medical equipment inspections, and engage with approved vendors as required. As a VESST, you may also be required to assist with direct patient contact and support medical care, as well as respond to disasters or large-scale incidents within Alberta as needed. This position may require extensive standing, twisting, and other physical demands to perform job duties.
