Job description

At Mama Earth, We Better Your World Through Food. We’re building a better food system - one that supports local farmers and makers, reduces environmental impact, and delivers fresh, high-quality food to our community every week. Our team plays a direct role in connecting people with sustainable, locally sourced products while helping reduce our collective footprint.

We’re looking for dependable, hardworking individuals who take pride in doing things right the first time and being part of a team that values consistency, accountability, and purpose.

This role is based at our new warehouse location, at 6075 Kestrel Road, Mississauga, important in continuing to grow our operations. While Mama Earth is an established brand, this facility represents a new chapter in how we bring our products to our customers. You’ll be joining a team from the ground up, playing a hands-on role in shaping how we work, collaborate, and deliver every week.

This is a high-impact role responsible for the physical flow of the warehouse - from unloading incoming stock, reviewing quality, to ensuring the packing line is staged and replenished for maximum efficiency.

Schedule & Availability

  • Start Time: Multiple Shift Times Available Ranging from 6 AM - 11 AM starts
  • Status: Full-Time (32 - 40 hours per week)
  • Availability: Monday-Friday

Core Responsibilities

1. Receiving & Quality Control (Produce & Grocery)

  • Inbound Inspection: Receive all deliveries, verifying that quantities match purchase orders and supplier invoices. Inspect for quality, freshness, and best-before dates.
  • Collaboration: Work with the department manager to decide whether to accept or return products. Ensure all invoices are clearly marked with returns or errors.
  • Inventory Intake: Separate, sort, and label received goods. Move stock into fridges, freezers, or shelves using the FIFO (First-In, First-Out) method.

2. Inventory

  • Cycle Counts: Conduct daily inventory checks and cycle counts as requested by the Manager.
  • Reporting: Identify and report on high-stock or high-waste ("ditch") items. Review the quality of remaining inventory to prevent surprises.
  • Continuous Improvement: Work with Management to develop processes that improve efficiency, reduce waste, and maintain impeccable quality standards.

3. Bulk Pull & Line Support

  • Pre-Production Staging: Set up bulk pull items for the packing needs, organized on pallets or racks in the correct packing order.
  • Accuracy Checks: Review all pulls for accuracy and note any "shorts" (missing items) to the Manager immediately.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with colleagues and managers to deliver same-day needs to the line and make real-time corrections.

4. Active Line Replenishment

  • Monitor inventory levels on the line in real-time; refill produce and packing materials (boxes, thermal paper, foil bags) before packers run out.
  • Coordinate with the Manager to quickly secure replacements for "shorted" or poor-quality items to avoid line stoppages.
  • Actively participate in the packing line when needed to maintain the target pace.
  • Keep a clean and organized work space and remove boxes and crates before they pile up.

5. Maintenance

  • Organization: Keep all fridges, freezers, and warehouse shelves clean, condensed, and tidy. Labels produce areas in fridges daily.
  • Equipment & Logistics: Organize pallets, carts, and pallet jacks. Collect and organize supplier "empties" for next-day pickup.
  • Daily Maintenance: Maintain a safe workspace. Sweep fridges/receiving areas, wipe down prep tables, and manage the disposal of cardboard and debris.

  • Physicality: This is a very active role requiring standing, walking, reaching, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs consistently.
  • Environment: Capability to work in refrigerated and freezer environments for the duration of the shift.
  • Equipment: Proficiency in using manual pump trucks. Training and sign-off on electrical pump trucks will be provided.
  • Precision & Measurement: Proficiency in basic math for the precise weighing and portioning of items.
  • Independence: Strong ability to work on assigned tasks with little supervision.
  • Pace: Ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure; you must be a "self-starter" who sees what needs to be done before being asked.
  • Communication: Strong verbal skills to coordinate between teams.
  • Experience: Experience is required; though we provide full refresher training on all equipment and food safety processes.
  • Reliable Team Contributor: Strong interpersonal skills with a commitment to supporting your colleagues and maintaining a positive, helpful attitude during busy shifts.
