Job description

Company:

Capital Automotive Group Inc./ DBA Capital Automall

Capital Automotive Group operates franchised dealerships across Saskatchewan, Alberta, Manitoba and California. We have started building our own AI systems, and each one is built to written standards: tested before it goes live, read-only unless a person approves an action, and run in Canada wherever possible.

This is our first dedicated AI role, and we’re being honest about what that means. You won’t join a large data team. You’ll join our IT department and work closely with our AI Committee. You’ll take over the day-to-day running of these systems, build new ones the same careful way, and become the person who keeps our company’s information organized and usable in Google Workspace.

If you want real ownership of real systems early in your career, and you care as much about doing it safely as doing it fast, this role is for you.

What you’ll do

Keep our AI systems running (about half your time)

  • Monitor and maintain live and in-development systems built on Google Cloud: Cloud Run services and jobs, Cloud Scheduler, Cloud Storage, BigQuery, and Google’s AI search and Gemini services.
  • Run each system’s test set on schedule, investigate failures, and report results honestly, including the bad ones.
  • Manage model updates and retirements, and keep costs inside agreed limits.
  • Work with IT on credentials and access: rotation, least privilege, and immediate revocation when something looks wrong.
  • Keep documentation and the decision record current, so anyone can see what was built and why.

Build new systems, the governed way (about half your time)

  • Build new AI agents and data pipelines from our project registry, in Python and SQL, with all code and AI instructions version-controlled in GitHub and every change made through reviewed pull requests.
  • Write the test cases before building, and take each system through a formal sign-off before it’s called deployed.
  • Work with department owners (HR, Marketing, Finance, Service and others) to turn their questions into specifications and their examples into tests.

Organize how we store and find information

  • Own the structure of our Google Drive: shared drives versus personal drives, folder structures, and naming conventions.
  • Keep that structure consistent with our master list of companies and dealerships, so both people and AI systems can find the right document.
  • Audit, propose and carry out clean-ups, working with IT on any administrative changes.

Turn data into answers

  • Build reports and dashboards in Looker Studio and BigQuery for our executive team and General Managers.
  • Answer data questions in plain language, and say clearly when the data can’t support an answer.

How we work — and what we expect of you

  • Transparency. Everything you build lives in our repository and our records. No side projects on personal accounts, no shortcuts around review, and you speak up when something, or someone, is pushing in the wrong direction.
  • Data stays where it belongs. Our systems run in Canadian data centers wherever possible, and every exception is decided and recorded. Customer and employee information is protected to the strictest standard that applies.
  • People decide; AI assists. Our systems produce evidence and drafts. A person approves anything that spends money, sends a message or changes a record.
  • “I don’t know” is a good answer. We’d rather a system, or a person, say it isn’t sure than guess.

You’ll complete a structured onboarding on our AI governance, data sovereignty and security standards in your first weeks.

What you bring

Required

  • A degree or diploma in computer science, engineering, data science or a related field, or equivalent self-taught experience we can see in your work.
  • Solid Python and SQL, with projects you can show us and talk through: work, school or personal.
  • Hands-on experience with at least one cloud platform; Google Cloud preferred.
  • Comfort with Git and GitHub-based workflows.
  • Practical experience building something with large language models or data pipelines, and an understanding of where they fail.
  • Clear writing and the ability to explain technical work to people who aren’t technical.
  • Good judgement with sensitive data, and the candor to raise problems early.

Nice to have

  • BigQuery, Cloud Run and Looker Studio.
  • Building retrieval-augmented (“RAG”) systems or evaluating AI output.
  • Google Workspace administration, especially Drive and shared-drive management.
  • Familiarity with Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA, Alberta PIPA) or California’s CCPA.

We are open to candidates from recent graduates through to those with several years’ experience. Pay will reflect experience.
