Job description

Join a Challenger

At EQ, we're remaking banking so every Canadian gets ahead, every day. Serving nearly 4 million Canadians from coast to coast, we offer a wide variety of financial services from banking and lending, to trust and credit union solutions.

We've been at this since 1970, challenging the conventions of traditional banking with smarter, faster, and more connected financial experiences.

What's kept us moving? The people behind it all: challengers who ask better questions, push back on old assumptions, and look for a better way forward.

If you're driven to help reshape how banking works for Canadians and the businesses that power our economy, this could be your next big opportunity.

We can’t wait to get to know you!

The Work

The Analyst, Credit Risk Management is responsible for executing independent credit risk oversight through the analysis, monitoring, and reporting of single-family residential mortgage, reverse mortgage and consumer lending portfolios, including lending tiers and segmentation by geographic region. The role plays a key part in strengthening enterprisewide consistency, transparency, and governance of lending risk by providing timely, datadriven insights to Risk leadership.

This role operates as part of the second line of defense and partners closely with first‑line lending and credit teams while maintaining independence of risk oversight. The role contributes to the Bank’s risk transformation agenda by enhancing analytical rigor, standardization, and reporting related to lending portfolio risk, including leveraging AI-enabled analytics and automation tools such as Microsoft Copilot Studio to improve efficiency and scalability.

The Core Responsibilities

Lending Portfolio Analytics & Tier Oversight

Analyze lending portfolios segmented by geographic region, on an ongoing basis, including monitoring lending tiers and related risk indicators.

Assess portfolio performance trends, concentrations, and emerging risks, including analysis of internal credit risk indicators (e.g., delinquencies, loan-to-value, impairments) to evaluate portfolio risk dynamics.

Monitor and analyze macroeconomic and regional factors (e.g., house price index, employment growth, demographic, occupational shifts, and economic conditions) through review of industry publications, economic reports, and relevant news sources to assess their impact on lending portfolio risk and tiering assumptions.

Identify variances, anomalous trends, early warning indicators, or signs of portfolio drift, perform root cause analysis, and escalate findings through established Credit Risk channels.

Lead periodic review and validation of lending tiers and segmentation methodologies, including recommending tier upgrades/downgrades based on analytical insights and observed risk outcomes.

Risk Reporting & Management Insights

Prepare recurring and ad-hoc reports and dashboards on lending portfolio performance, regional trends, and key risk metrics, delivering clear, timely insights to Risk leadership and stakeholders.

Support the development of executive‑ready materials to inform Risk leadership and senior stakeholders.

Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of data used in analytics and reporting outputs.

Stakeholder Collaboration & Governance Support

Partner with first‑line lending, credit, and business teams to validate data inputs, clarify assumptions, and gather insights on emerging industry trends and market developments to inform portfolio analytics and risk assessment.

Provide independent challenge and recommend tiering updates (including upgrades/downgrades) where appropriate to ensure alignment with Risk appetite and governance expectations.

Act as a Risk point of contact for analytical inquiries related to lending portfolios and tiering.

Contribute documentation and analysis required for internal reviews, audits, or regulatory requests related to lending portfolio risk and governance.

Continuous Improvement & AI Enablement

Identify opportunities to improve analytical processes, controls, and data quality related to lending portfolio analytics.

Support automation, standardization, and reporting enhancements, including the use of AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot Studio.

Design, build, and maintain agentic workflows and automations using Microsoft Copilot Studio and Power Automate to streamline repetitive analytical, reporting, and data-quality tasks and improve the scalability of lending portfolio analytics.

Apply emerging AI and automation capabilities responsibly, ensuring alignment with the Bank's risk, governance, data, and model risk controls.

Contribute to broader risk transformation initiatives that strengthen analytical capability and scalability across the Risk function.

Let's Talk About You

Undergraduate degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Data Analytics, or a related discipline (or equivalent combination of education and experience).

Typically 1–3 years of progressive experience in risk analytics, portfolio analytics, credit analytics, or a related analytical role.

Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex datasets and translate insights into clear findings.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience working with reporting, visualization, or analytics tools (e.g., Power BI); experience in a regulated financial services environment is an asset.

Proficiency in SQL for data extraction, querying, and filtering large datasets to support portfolio analysis and reporting.

Strong business and risk acumen, including understanding of residential mortgage lending and credit risk terminology and key risk drivers (e.g., loan-to-value, arrears, delinquency, total /gross debt service ratio, probability of default, exposure at default, loss given default) to support effective analysis and interpretation of portfolio performance.

Strong attention to detail and demonstrated commitment to data accuracy and integrity.

Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present analytical insights to non‑technical stakeholders.

Ability to manage competing priorities in a deadline‑driven environment with appropriate guidance and supervision.

Familiarity with AI-assisted analytics or low-code automation tools such as Microsoft Copilot Studio and Power Automate, and an interest in building agentic workflows to streamline analytical and reporting tasks, is an asset.
