What You Will Do

  • Provide end-to-end operational ownership and 24/7 production support for large-scale Java and JEE applications, with a focus on availability, resilience and rapid service recovery.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation, respond to alerts, triage incidents and lead technical investigation calls for escalated production issues.
  • Diagnose complex application, infrastructure, database and network issues using application performance monitoring tools and detailed log analysis.
  • Lead root-cause analysis and post-incident reviews, translating findings into practical actions that prevent recurrence and reduce mean time to recovery.

  • Integrate observability and service-management platforms, including AppDynamics, Splunk, PagerDuty and ServiceNow, to strengthen incident detection, escalation and resolution workflows.
  • Configure and tune alerts, escalation paths and operational workflows to improve signal quality and reduce unnecessary operational noise.
  • Support APIs, microservices, containers and other modern application architectures across complex production environments.
  • Review and create network rules and configure network appliances to investigate and resolve connectivity issues.
  • Develop practical solutions during incidents and unplanned events to mitigate customer impact and restore service quickly.
  • Create and maintain technical guides, implementation plans, validation checklists, operating procedures and post-incident reports.
  • Provide next-level technical support, coaching and day-to-day guidance to Application Operations Analysts and Specialists.
  • Contribute to reliability and operational-improvement initiatives that support the continued evolution of Interac’s SRE practices and next-generation platforms

What You Bring:

  • A university degree in Computer Science, Engineering or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
  • 5+ years of combined experience in Java software development and application support or maintenance, preferably within payment systems or banking.
  • At least three years of hands-on experience supporting and maintaining Java or JEE applications, including application monitoring, dashboard design and alert tuning.
  • Strong expertise in Core Java, object-oriented programming, RESTful services and open-source frameworks such as Spring and Apache.
  • Experience with data transformation technologies and formats such as JAXB2, JSON and XML.
  • A strong Site Reliability Engineering mindset, with a focus on improving application and infrastructure reliability, stability and performance.
  • Experience supporting high-throughput, low-latency and service-oriented architectures in production environments.
  • Advanced troubleshooting and debugging experience across the Java technology stack, including API- and network-level investigation.
  • Hands-on experience with application monitoring and observability tools such as AppDynamics, Dynatrace, Splunk and ELK.
  • A solid understanding of Linux and middleware platforms such as WebSphere, along with experience tuning Linux, Windows and network infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of cloud- and container-based architectures, including Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with relational database technologies such as Oracle or DB2, including the ability to write SQL queries and produce reports from databases and Splunk.
  • A strong understanding of networking concepts and hardware, including firewalls, load balancers and network appliances.
  • Experience with CI/CD platforms, application deployment and release-management processes.
  • Experience using scripting and automation technologies such as Bash, PowerShell, Python and Ansible.
  • Knowledge of ISO payment standards and experience troubleshooting APIs and networks within a payment ecosystem.
  • A solid understanding of ITIL service-management processes and operational best practices.
  • Experience contributing to software delivery within an Agile development environment.
  • Strong technical writing skills, including the ability to produce technical guides, implementation plans, validation checklists and post-incident reports.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical or sensitive information clearly and work through challenging stakeholder situations.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities, remain organised and synthesise information from multiple sources in high-pressure situations.
  • A proactive and adaptable approach, with a commitment to learning new technologies and contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment.
  • The ability and willingness to participate in a 24/7 on-call environment, including non-routine evening and weekend hours.
