Job description

Why BCAA?

Feel proud of what you do and help shape the future of BC at a BC Top Employer. We’re driven by purpose – delivering peace of mind to one in three BC households with insurance, roadside assistance, auto repair, Evo Car Share and Evolve E-Bike Share. With a long history of keeping roads safe and giving back in ways that build stronger communities, we offer a wide variety of meaningful, rewarding careers that move BC forward.

As an Associate Corporate Accountant, you’ll support accurate and timely accounting and financial reporting across BCAA. Reporting to the Assistant Manager, Corporate Accounting, you’ll complete journal entries, account reconciliations, general ledger reviews, and audit preparation while contributing to process improvements and finance systems initiatives. This is a Temporary Full-Time contract with an anticipated end date of December 31, 2028.

This is an opportunity to build broad accounting experience within a large, multi-entity organization while working toward your CPA designation. You’ll collaborate with Finance colleagues and stakeholders across the organization and support BCAA’s evolving accounting processes and ERP implementation.

Who you are

  • You’re an early-career accounting professional who is eager to build your technical knowledge and gain experience across different areas of Finance.
  • You’re detail-oriented and take pride in producing accurate, complete, and well-supported work.
  • You’re analytical and comfortable reviewing financial information, investigating discrepancies, and helping resolve accounting issues.
  • You’re organized and can manage multiple priorities while meeting established deadlines.
  • You’re collaborative and comfortable working with both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
  • You’re adaptable and willing to take on new responsibilities as business needs and departmental priorities change.

What you’ll do

  • Complete accounting activities for assigned business areas, including accruals, journal entries, account reconciliations, transaction files, and month-end adjustments.
  • Prepare month-end journal entries and account reconciliations accurately and within established timelines.
  • Support bank-related accounting activities, including journal entries and reconciliations.
  • Review assigned general ledger accounts, investigate discrepancies, and prepare or coordinate corrective entries.
  • Work with Finance colleagues and business stakeholders to gather supporting information and resolve accounting matters.
  • Support year-end audit activities by preparing working papers and responding to audit requests.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency, accuracy, and effectiveness of accounting processes and controls.
  • Contribute to ERP and finance systems implementation activities, including data validation, general ledger cleanup, process documentation, testing, issue identification, and the transition of accounting processes and reporting.
  • Provide accounting support across Finance and take on additional responsibilities based on business needs and departmental priorities.
  • Collaborate with external auditors and service providers when required.

What you bring

  • A bachelor’s degree in Business or Commerce with a concentration in Finance or Accounting, or a bachelor’s degree in another discipline combined with a post-secondary diploma in Accounting.
  • An intention to pursue your Chartered Professional Accountant, or CPA, designation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the ability to work with financial systems and large volumes of data.
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical ability, and organizational skills.
  • The ability to communicate effectively, work collaboratively, and manage changing priorities in a team environment.

The following would be considered an asset:

  • Enrollment in the CPA Professional Education Program.
  • Previous accounting or finance experience gained through a co-op, internship, or early-career position.
  • Exposure to a medium or large multi-entity corporate reporting environment.
  • Experience working in a high-volume transactional environment.
  • Experience communicating financial information to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
  • Exposure to an ERP implementation or other finance systems initiative.

The salary range for this position is $32.19 to $40.24 per hour and is determined via job-related knowledge, skills, experience, certifications, market demand and internal equity. In addition to base salary and BCAA benefits, this position is eligible for a performance bonus target of 5%, with the opportunity to earn up to 9%.

What we offer:

  • The chance to make a difference every day in the lives of British Columbians, BCAA Members and our communities.

  • Career and personal development to help you grow and reach your goals.

  • Incentives that recognize team and individual sales and performance.

  • Flexible benefits to support your health and lifestyle, and wellness dollars* to keep your body, mind and soul thriving.

  • A competitive rewards package including salary performance bonus programs, pension plan*, and more to help build your personal wealth.

  • Paid time off including vacation, and days for wellness, volunteering, and cultural, spiritual or religious connection.

  • BCAA membership, with valuable perks and Member savings on every day and special spending, from gas and coffee to clothes, sports and event tickets, and hotels.

  • Meaningful, rewarding work for a BC Top Employer known for putting people first and constantly building a better workplace for all our team members.
