We are seeking a Regular Full-Time Branch Associate in our Main Location to join our passionate team. You’ll be right in the middle of the action balancing hands-on client support with essential warehouse operations. Step into a role where your efforts directly fuel community well-being and operational excellence. This role is your chance to make a tangible impact every day by ensuring food reaches those who need it.

About Us

At the Calgary Food Bank our mission is “to make food accessible to everyone in our city”. We also provide over 80 partner charities throughout the city with food. As an organization, we pride ourselves on being client centered, community focused, and committed to excellence in both our operations and culture.

The Opportunity

The Branch Associate will be at the heart of both client service and warehouse operations — ensuring a welcoming, respectful experience while supporting deliveries, stocking, and safety. Reporting into the Branch Manager, you’ll support client intake, guide volunteers during food hamper distribution, and help create a smooth, efficient space where teamwork and care come together. This role offers a meaningful chance to contribute daily to food accessibility and community well-being.

What You’ll Do:

  • Oversee client intake processes, ensuring ID verification and related procedures are followed.
  • Assist with client questions, resource referrals, and crisis/conflict resolution as needed.
  • Ensure client-facing processes follow health, safety, and food handling standards.
  • Maintain confidentiality and dignity in all client interactions.
  • Volunteer support, which includes welcoming, coaching, training and supporting onsite volunteers.
  • Conduct health and safety orientations to volunteers for specific to tasks and areas of work.
  • Receive and handle incoming deliveries and outgoing waste safely and efficiently.
  • Stock perishables and non-perishables in the shopping area.
  • Maintain accurate records of inventory, donations, and product movement.
  • Assist with hamper preparation and product rotation in accordance with guidelines.
  • Support cleanliness and organization in the shopping area.
  • Operate equipment safely (e.g., pallet jacks), following all health and safety procedures.
  • Report issues related to safety, inventory discrepancies, or operational hazards promptly.
  • Make operational decisions in real-time to address client and warehouse needs.
  • Prioritize tasks and allocate volunteers appropriately based on the demands of the shift.
  • Ensure compliance with Calgary Food Bank policies and promote a culture of safety and teamwork.
  • Participate in implementing feedback from clients and volunteers to improve service quality.

What You Bring:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience dealing with a wide variety of people in retail or nonprofit work.
  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant field (Community Development, Social Work, Nutrition and Food Science, Supply Chain Management or related disciplines) or equivalent experience.
  • Experience working in customer service or with vulnerable populations is an asset.

Skills and Capabilities

  • Strong customer service and client-oriented skills.
  • Proficient to advanced computer knowledge.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Proven verbal communication skills and interpersonal savvy.
  • Strong crisis and conflict resolution skills.
  • Problem solving, multi-tasking and strong teamwork focus.
  • The ability to work with a diverse and vulnerable population.
  • Flexible and responsive to the demands of the department.
  • Knowledge of community resources would be an asset.

Working Conditions

  • Work is primarily conducted in a mixed warehouse and retail-like environment.
  • Occasional evening and weekend shifts may be required for operational needs.
  • Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, frontline service environment.
  • Must be comfortable in changing work environments, standing or sitting for long periods of time and be able to lift 50 lbs.

What Makes This Role Exciting:

This role puts you front and center in a vibrant, mission-driven environment where every day brings meaningful impact. You’ll balance hands-on client engagement with essential behind-the-scenes operations, supporting a team that’s passionate about making food accessible with dignity. From welcoming clients and helping volunteers to assisting with inventory and ensuring safety, you’ll play a crucial part in shaping a welcoming hub that serves the community and sets the stage for future growth.
