Job description

Reports To: CFO

Location: On-site in Burnaby, BC

Role Summary: Novarc Technologies is looking for a high-octane Corporate Controller to join our leadership team. We aren't just looking for someone to manage the General Ledger; we need a strategic operator who understands the unique financial pulse of a global robotics and AI manufacturing firm.

You will be the architect of our financial systems, ensuring that as our production of Spool Welding Robots (SWR) scales globally, our financial infrastructure remains world-class.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operational Excellence & Manufacturing Finance

    • Cost Accounting: Lead the strategy for standard costing, WIP tracking, and inventory management for our complex robotics hardware.

    • Global Consolidation: Manage multi-entity, multi-currency financial reporting across our international subsidiaries (US and AUS, with a pending EU subsidiary).

    • Audit & Compliance: Own the external audit relationship, including a potential transition to a larger firm, and ensure ‘bulletproof’ financial statements ready for M&A or capital-markets scrutiny.

    • Month-end Close & Reporting: Own the month-end close, targeting completion within 5 business days, and prepare the monthly board financial package. Own revenue recognition across hardware (shipped Ex Works), software subscriptions, installation, and service.

  • Strategic Scaling & Systems

    • ERP Leadership: Evaluate, optimize, and lead improvements within NetSuite. You will be responsible for automating manual processes to provide real-time data visibility across the organization. Lead implementation of the recurring revenue module and streamline our manufacturing procurement process.

    • Internal Controls: Design and implement robust, SOX-lite internal controls that protect the company without stifling tech-sector agility. Support SOC 1/SOC 2 readiness.

    • Tax & Treasury: Oversee global tax strategies, including SR&ED tax credits, transfer pricing, and US state nexus compliance.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration

    • FP&A Integration: Partner closely with the FP&A Manager on high-level financial modeling, variance analysis, and long-range planning.

    • Business Intelligence: Transform raw accounting data into actionable insights for the Sales, Operations, and Engineering teams. Oversee timesheet management to ensure precise cost allocations from OpEx to Cost of Sales (CoS).

    • Mentorship: Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing finance team capable of keeping pace with 2x–3x year-over-year growth.

  • Other responsibilities as assigned, such as: Lender and investor reporting, and government grant accounting.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Designation: Active CPA (a Big 4 background is a significant asset).

  • Technical Accounting: Excellent knowledge of both ASPE and IFRS.

  • Experience: 5+ years of progressive post-CPA finance experience, with at least 3 years at the Controller level. Preference to those with experience in a Tech Manufacturing, Hardware, or Robotics environment.

  • Transaction and Capital Markets: Experience in M&A and/or fundraising is an asset

  • The "Scale" Factor: You have a proven track record as a key player in a company scaling from $25M to $75M+ in revenue.

  • Tech Savvy: Advanced Excel skills are a given. Experience with complex ERP implementations (NetSuite) and AI-driven finance tools will set you apart.

  • Mindset: You are a "Builder," not a "Maintainer." You see a messy process not as a roadblock, but as an opportunity to automate, optimize, and innovate.

  • Travel as needed to our US customer experience centre, and to Europe in future.

Commitment to Novarc Values:

Demonstrate and embed Novarc’s core values of Hungry, Humble, and Smart in daily work, decision-making, collaboration, and interactions with colleagues, customers, and partners.
