Job description
Who we are

ML arteka is one of the fastest-growing IT Services and Consulting companies in Canada and serves some of the most iconic brands, including Google, Loblaws, Staples, Telus, Bell, Rogers, CIBC, BMO, CMLS, Fossil, Fitbit and more.

Over the last decade, we have achieved 100% client retention and earned more than 20 notable industry recognition. This reflects our reliability in delivering what we promise and the quality we bring to every engagement.

Join our growth-driven culture and help us lead, innovate, and simplify. We are looking for a team members who embody our values:
  • Empathetic - we listen, we understand, and are considerate of everyone
  • Persevering - we dont give up on challenges or people and go all the way
  • Inclusive - we value everyone and their perspectives
  • Reliable - we deliver what we promise, and more
  • Innovative - we make things better than they were yesterday
The Role :

Design and deliver the semantic layer and Power BI reporting capability for governed data platform engagements at regulated financial institutions. Own the semantic model over the analytical tier, configure Power BI connectivity and workspaces, deliver the agreed set of reports business users depend on, and contribute engineering capacity to client-owned data engineering and ETL work alongside client teams. Author and execute the test cases that prove your work.

You Will :
  • Design and implement the semantic layer over client Athena analytical tiers — the model Power BI and other analytical consumers read against, structured for the reporting patterns the business needs.
  • Configure Power BI connectivity to the semantic layer, validate end-to-end query patterns, and configure user workspaces in the client Power BI environment.
  • Deliver the agreed set of use case reports — production-quality Power BI reports built for the confirmed business audiences, validated with the client business partner during delivery.
  • Refine visualization requirements with client business stakeholders during delivery, within the agreed report scope, without allowing scope to drift into custom UI territory.
  • Contribute to client-owned data engineering and ETL work as a co-developer alongside the client technical lead — data ingestion, transformation, gap handling — without taking the outcome ownership the client retains.
  • Author test specifications for the semantic layer, Power BI reports, and your ETL contributions. Author and maintain automated tests that run as part of the deployment pipeline provided by the client. Investigate and remediate defects on your components.
  • Work as an embedded member of an integrated delivery team: participate in daily standups, sprint planning, and joint reviews with client technical leads, data analysts, and business partners.
Who You Are :
  • You have designed and shipped semantic layers over analytical tiers (Athena, BigQuery, Snowflake, or comparable) — not just as a modeling exercise, but as the layer downstream consumers depend on in production.
  • You have hands-on Power BI experience at report-build depth: DAX, connectivity to cloud analytical stores, workspace configuration, and Row Level Security patterns. You have shipped Power BI reports business users actually use.
  • You know dimensional modeling and can apply it pragmatically — you have opinions on when to normalize, when to denormalize, and what makes a semantic layer usable versus theoretically pure.
  • You are comfortable in the AWS data stack: S3, Athena, Iceberg or comparable formats, Aurora PostgreSQL. You can trace a query through the stack when performance is off.
  • You treat testing as part of your engineering craft — you write test cases as you build, you understand how to test data pipelines and semantic models (not just application code), and you can distinguish between a unit test, an integration test, and a data quality check.
  • You have contributed to ETL and data engineering work without treating ownership as a status question — you can co-develop and hand back cleanly.
  • You can walk a business partner through a report and iterate on it in the same session, without needing a UX designer for basic layout and interaction decisions.
  • You are comfortable working inside a client team, participating in their cadence, and delivering ownership outcomes without behaving like a vendor visitor.
What to expect

Besides Competitive Salary and working for one of Canadas Best Managed and Top 50 Technology Companies, you should expect:
  • Purposeful Work: autonomy, resources, and time you need to do what matters for our clients and most importantly - you
