Compass Group Canada is looking for a high-energy, entrepreneurial sales leader to drive growth across Eastern Canada's mining sector. This is not an account management role. This is a pure business development position focused on identifying opportunities, creating strategic sales plans, and winning new business in one of Canada's most dynamic industries.

As our Director of Business Development, you'll be on the front lines of growth, partnering with mining operators, visiting remote sites, traveling extensively throughout Eastern Canada, and introducing clients to industry-leading food services, facilities management, and workforce support solutions. You'll help shape how remote workforces live, eat, and perform in some of the most challenging environments in the country. This is a highly autonomous role for someone who loves the thrill of the chase, is energized by travel and relationship building, and has a track record of turning opportunities into long-term partnerships.

ESS Support Services is the market leader in delivering remote food services and integrated support solutions across North America, operating in some of the most challenging and extreme environments. Serving sectors such as Oil & Gas, Mining, Construction, Forestry, Military & Defense, and industrial remote sites, ESS provides end-to-end services including industrial hospitality, facilities management and maintenance, janitorial and accommodation services, safety-critical operations, logistics, workforce mobilization, and remote workforce support for camps, permanent facilities, offshore sites, and specialized installations.

Now, if you were to come on board as our Director of Business Development, we'd ask you to do the following for us:

  • Lead Generation/Prospecting: Identify and pursue new mining sector opportunities throughout Eastern Canada. Conduct market research, map key stakeholders, uncover emerging projects, and create opportunities where competitors see obstacles.

  • Strategic Planning: Develop and execute winning market-entry and account-growth strategies. Build tailored client engagement plans, establish relationships with key decision-makers, and contribute to the long-term growth strategy of the region.

  • Pipeline Management: Own the full sales cycle from prospecting to contract award. Build and maintain a robust pipeline of opportunities while delivering accurate forecasting and sales reporting.

  • Negotiations: Lead complex commercial negotiations and guide opportunities through proposal development, presentations, contract discussions, and successful close. Confidently engage senior executives and procurement teams to secure new business.

  • Relationship Management: Build trusted partnerships across all levels of client organizations, from site leadership to C-suite executives. Develop strong internal relationships to align operational capabilities with client needs and create long-term value.

  • Time Management: Balance multiple opportunities, travel commitments, client meetings, and proposal deadlines while maintaining momentum across a diverse territory.

  • Communication: Deliver compelling presentations, proposals, and business cases. Communicate effectively with both internal stakeholders and external clients to advance opportunities and support business growth.

  • Project Management: Lead cross-functional proposal and pursuit teams, coordinating operational, financial, and leadership resources to develop competitive and differentiated solutions.

  • Report Completion: Maintain accurate opportunity tracking, sales forecasts, strategic account plans, and year-to-date reporting.

  • Database Management: Keep CRM data current and actionable, ensuring accurate documentation of client interactions, opportunities, and business development activities.

Think you have what it takes to be our Director of Business Development? We're committed to hiring the best talent for the role. Here's how we'll know you'll be successful in the role:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience is preferred.
  • Bilingual in French and English (written and verbal) is required.
  • 8+ years of sales experience with at least 5 years in a true hunter-focused business development role.
  • Experience developing new business within industries such as Mining, Energy, Industrial Services, Hospitality Services, Facilities Management, Workforce Solutions, or other B2B environments.
  • Proven ability to generate, pursue, and close complex opportunities with long sales cycles and multiple stakeholders.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a strong sense of ownership, resilience, and determination.
  • Demonstrated track record of exceeding revenue and business development targets.
  • Comfortable working independently while leveraging the support of a national organization and proven sales framework.
  • Strong commercial acumen, business judgment, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Exceptional relationship-building skills with the confidence to engage operational leaders, procurement teams, and executive decision-makers.
  • Excellent presentation, communication, negotiation, and proposal-writing skills.
  • Effective organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple pursuits simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and CRM platforms.
  • Ability and enthusiasm to travel approximately 30-60% of the time across Eastern Canada, including visits to remote mining operations and project locations.
