Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with colleagues nationwide to shape CFIB’s legislative affairs agenda.
  • Prepare and present reports, briefs, and memoranda to government officials, opposition members, and other stakeholders.
  • Monitor government policy and legislative developments to ensure alignment with CFIB’s priorities.
  • Conduct member surveys to gather insights and define policy positions on SME issues.
  • Represent CFIB at regional meetings, providing updates on key advocacy issues to internal teams.
  • Collaborate with other departments to support members with policy-related inquiries.
  • Act as CFIB’s spokesperson in Nova Scotia, advocating for SME interests in media interviews and public events.
  • Manage and develop department staff, fostering a culture of professionalism and growth.
  • Oversee department operations, including budgeting, planning, and tracking expenditures.
  • Ensure the seamless flow of information and strategy development between regional and national teams.

What makes a successful Director, Provincial Affairs for Nova Scotia?

  • A university degree in Economics, Public Policy, Political Science, or equivalent work experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a public policy, government, or economics setting. Experience working with or within government is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of SME issues and government policy processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and report writing.
  • Proven ability to manage and develop teams, with strong organizational and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and data analysis tools.
