Outsmart rising energy costs with an all-in-one energy management solution

Full company description

The grid is under more pressure than ever. Demand's climbing, supply's getting volatile, and the largest users pay for both. Edgecom changes the math for everyone on the grid: Large commercial and industrial facilities cut emissions and costs. Utilities orchestrate the grid and the assets already on it. Project developers maximize their revenue stacks and cut project risk. We do it with an AI-native platform for demand flexibility, VPP optimization, and microgrid management. It predicts peak demand, automates dispatch, and connects facilities directly to grid programs. So you can stop overpaying and start earning from the energy you already use! 160 logos. 240+ facilities. $300M+ in verified savings since 2020. 11% average reduction in total energy costs. Clients like Brookfield (BGIS), ABB, EfficiencyOne, Dr. Oetker, and Pembina trust us to deliver. We combined two things that previously needed separate systems: grid market intelligence and direct control of distributed energy resources. We keep it all in-house: world-class electrical engineering, software development, and SCADA and controls expertise. That's how we deliver full turnkey programs, from engineering to dispatch. Some of the things we can do: * Coincident peak prediction and avoidance * Optimized HVAC dispatch * Full demand response program management, including financial analysis and M&V * VPP dispatch * Islanded microgrid controls and grid-interactivity * BESS and behind-the-meter generator dispatch * Real-time wholesale market and ISO participation Utility incentive and rebate management We've won Data Center World's 2026 Innovation Challenge, ABB's Global Startup Challenge, Shell's New Energy Challenge, the AEE Innovator of the Year award, and more. We started Edgecom on a simple bet: every large facility has flexibility sitting idle. A few years and hundreds of millions in savings later, we know we were right. We're just getting started.

Job description

Energy Market Associate

Edgecom Energy | Toronto, ON (Hybrid)

About Edgecom Energy

Edgecom Energy is an AI-native energy management platform serving commercial and industrial facilities across North America. Our software monitors, predicts, and optimizes energy use, controls distributed energy resources, and participates in wholesale energy markets in a single integrated stack. We serve hundreds of the largest energy users across 240+ facilities and we're scaling fast: we are about to close our Series A and our team is set to double over the next 18 months as we expand across Canada and into US markets.

About the Role

As an Energy Market Associate reporting to the VP of Energy Markets, you'll operate the demand response programs that sit at the core of our business. You'll run Edgecom's IESO Capacity Auction participation and local DR programs day to day, work directly with commercial and industrial customers on their performance, and back up the wider markets team during peak season. It's a hands-on role for someone who wants to understand how these markets actually work from the inside — and who's motivated by turning what the data shows into better ways of running the business.

Responsibilities

  • Run the IESO Capacity Auction program — availability, test events, dispatch notifications, and settlement verification.
  • Operate local and utility-sponsored DR programs — enrollment, event execution, and performance reporting.
  • Analyze performance and dispatch data to identify trends, root causes, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Turn analysis into action — improvements to internal systems, workflows, partner coordination, customer communication, and SOPs.
  • Deliver performance reporting to customers and the management team.
  • Own client-reported issues — triage with internal teams and keep customers informed.
  • Maintain program and registration data across all enrolled programs.
  • Serve as backup on coincident peak programs across North America — supporting teammates with IESO 5CP and PJM 5CP forecasting, notifications, and participation tracking.
  • Stay current on market and program rule changes and translate them into internal actions.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

  • 2+ years in energy markets, demand response, or a related area of the electricity sector.
  • Working knowledge of the IESO market and how DR resources participate and settle.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • Strong analytical skills and fluency in Excel with operational and interval meter data.
  • Self-starter who turns data and event results into practical, measurable improvements.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, including direct customer contact.
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced environment and find solutions in ambiguity.

Preferred

  • Electrical engineering degree or power systems background.
  • Familiarity with AESO, PJM, or NYISO market rules and DR products.
  • Experience with utility or LDC-sponsored DR programs.
  • SQL, Python, or BI tools for reporting automation.

What We Offer

  • Meaningful work with a purpose — reducing costs and emissions and saving energy for a more sustainable future.
  • A competitive salary of $90,000-$100,000 CAD, based on experience.
  • Outstanding health, vision, and dental benefits.
  • A potential equity participation program aimed at extending ownership opportunities to employees.
  • A small agile team where you'll be able to make a real-life difference.
  • Onsite gym at the office.
  • Hybrid work.
  • Personal days to promote work-life balance and employee well-being.
