Job description

The Financial Analyst, FP&A supports Q-Line’s financial planning, forecasting, business analysis, and decision-making activities. This role partners with Finance and operational leaders to translate financial and operating information into clear, actionable insight that supports business performance and long-term planning.

This position is designed for a CPA who has built a strong accounting foundation and is ready to broaden their career beyond historical reporting into forecasting, financial modelling, operational analysis, and strategic decision support.

The successful candidate does not need to come from a traditional FP&A background. Experience in corporate accounting, financial reporting, audit, controllership, or another finance environment can provide an excellent foundation for this opportunity. The role offers exposure to a complex transportation and logistics business and the opportunity to help strengthen Q-Line’s FP&A capabilities as the organization continues to evolve.

KEY RESPONSBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

Finance Planning & Forecasting

  • Support and continually improve annual budgeting, forecasting, and rolling forecast processes.
  • Analyze actual results against budget, forecast, and prior periods, identifying key drivers, risks, opportunities, and emerging trends.
  • Develop scenario and sensitivity models to support revenue, profitability, expense, capital, and cash-flow planning.

Business & Operational Analysis

  • Partner with operational and functional leaders to understand the financial drivers of their areas and translate operational activity into meaningful financial insight.
  • Evaluate performance across divisions, customers, services, and initiatives, including profitability, margin, cost, productivity, and return-on-investment analysis.

Decision Support

  • Build financial models and business cases for investments, capital expenditures, growth opportunities, and strategic initiatives.
  • Provide analysis and recommendations that help leaders improve profitability, efficiency, and overall business performance.

Reporting & Business Intelligence

  • Develop management reporting, dashboards, KPI packages, and forward-looking analysis that provide leaders with clear and actionable information.
  • Communicate financial information effectively to both financial and non-financial audiences.

Building for the Future

  • Help strengthen and mature Q-Line’s FP&A practices, tools, reporting, and planning processes.
  • Identify opportunities to automate or streamline financial analysis and reporting.
  • Work closely with Finance leadership and cross-functional teams to improve how financial information supports organizational decision-making.
  • Take on progressively greater responsibility as business knowledge and capabilities grow.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify and explain the business story behind financial results.
  • Ability to connect financial performance with operational drivers and business decisions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial leaders.
  • Confidence partnering with leaders across different functions and levels of the organization.
  • Strong business curiosity and a desire to understand how the organization operates, not simply how transactions are recorded.
  • Sound judgement, problem-solving, and decision-support capabilities.
  • Highly organized, accurate, and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Teachable, coachable, collaborative, and growth-mindset driven.
  • Motivated to develop broader finance and business leadership responsibilities.
