Job Description
The TWC Indigenous Co-op Program is an immersive, paid work term of four or eight months that provides hands-on experience in the environmental and social consulting sector. Our work includes analysis, research, and writing for First Nations, Métis, and Inuit clients, as well as for industry and government clients. You will learn from our experienced team through a combination of one-on-one and team collaboration.
The Indigenous Co-op Program gives you the chance to explore several areas within TWC, so you can see how environmental and social consulting work connects to your program of study and your career goals.
At the start of your work term, your supervisor will work with you to set learning goals that connect to your program of study. You will meet with your supervisor regularly for feedback, and we will complete any work term evaluation your school requires.
To learn more about the work we do and our service areas, visit our website at www.twoworldsconsulting.com. It is a good place to start as you think about which areas interest you most.
This is an in-office position at our downtown Victoria office. Some project assignments may require occasional travel to client sites, such as offices, project operations, and communities.
What You Will Do
Your work will depend on your program of study and can have a technical or business focus. You may:
- Research, analyze information, and write for reports, proposals, presentations, and training materials.
- Support community engagement and consultation programs, including tracking, recordkeeping, and attending events and meetings.
- Help with environmental, cultural heritage, or mapping (GIS) projects that bring together Indigenous Knowledge and Western science.
- Support project coordination, business development, or corporate services such as human resources, communications, finance, and information systems.
Qualifications
You are a First Nations, Métis, or Inuit person who:
- Is studying in a program related to environmental, cultural heritage, or business work, such as Environmental Science, Anthropology, Archaeology, Geography, GIS/Geomatics, Planning, Business, or Communications.
- Is comfortable working with both Western and Indigenous worldviews.
- Communicates clearly and respectfully, in writing and in person.
- Stays organized and works to meet deadlines.
- Is comfortable with Microsoft Office tools, including Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint, and Teams.
Eligibility
This posting is directed at First Nations, Métis, and Inuit applicants. If you receive an offer, you will be asked to complete an Indigenous Identity Declaration Form. This posting is made under Section 16 of the Canadian Human Rights Act and Section 42 of the British Columbia Human Rights Code, which allow preferential hiring of members of a designated group to achieve workplace equality.
This is a funded role partially supported by a federal wage subsidy program administered by ECO Canada.
To be eligible, you must:
- Be enrolled at an accredited Canadian post-secondary institution in a Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) or Business program.
- Be able to show how this placement relates to your program of study.
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person with refugee status in Canada.
You do not need to be enrolled in a formal co-op program.
