Job description

We’re Sandbox, a mutual insurance company built on the principles of creating, learning, growing, and having fun doing it. We’ve been around for over a century now, with a focus on one thing:

Delightfully Simple Insurance.

Sandbox is inclusive, engaging, and growing incredibly fast, so working with us is actually exciting! If you're looking for an opportunity to influence how risk is managed across the organization and help strengthen our resilience for the future, join the Sandbox team!

As our Lead, Risk & Resilience, you'll play a key role in executing and advancing Sandbox's Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and resilience frameworks. Working closely with leaders across the organization, you'll help identify, assess, monitor, and report on risks while supporting business continuity and disaster recovery planning. Reporting to the Chief Risk & Compliance Officer, you'll provide forward-looking insights that support informed decision-making and organizational resilience.

WHY YOU'LL WANT TO BUILD WITH US

Well, because Sandbox really is a sandbox — a giant playground for grown-ups who want to laugh, be creative, work dynamically, and take on new opportunities. No matter who you are, Sandbox is an extraordinarily welcoming and giving place! Like, extra-extraordinarily. And it's all because of our people.

On top of our incredible culture and amazing people, we also offer a bunch of awesome perks, like:

  • Payday Perks: Competitive salary
  • Level Up: Tons of opportunities for professional development, on us
  • Health & Wellness: Great benefits for you and your family, including dental and extended health benefits
  • Vacation Goals: Annual paid vacation time, so you don't have to put your travel dreams on hold
  • Best of Both Worlds: A hybrid work program, when applicable
  • Parking: Free electrified parking at our head office
  • Community Care: Two paid days a year to volunteer for causes that matter to you (on company time!)
  • Ride into the Sunset: DC pension plan, and what's even better, we match 6% of contributions

DIVE IN AND MAKE A SPLASH EVERY DAY, BY:

  • Executing and maintaining Sandbox's Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework.
  • Coordinating enterprise-wide risk identification, assessment, and documentation activities.
  • Maintaining the corporate risk register and supporting risk assessment processes.
  • Developing, monitoring, and reporting on key risk indicators (KRIs) and emerging risks.
  • Preparing meaningful risk and resilience reporting for leadership and governance committees.
  • Coordinating and maintaining the Business Continuity Management program and supporting Disaster Recovery planning and testing.
  • Leading scenario analysis, stress testing, and tabletop exercises to support organizational readiness.
  • Supporting operational risk assessments and providing risk input into third-party and concentration risk activities.
  • Tracking risk mitigation activities and helping ensure timely completion of remediation plans.
  • Monitoring internal and external developments that may impact Sandbox's risk profile.
  • Partnering with business leaders to embed risk awareness into planning and day-to-day decision-making.
  • Preparing risk presentations and materials for executive and board-level audiences.

WHAT YOU BRING TO SANDBOX:

  • Education: Post-secondary degree in risk management, business, finance, economics, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Experience: Minimum five years of experience in enterprise risk management, operational risk, resilience, or a related second-line role.
  • Risk Expertise: Demonstrated experience with ERM frameworks, risk assessment methodologies, and risk reporting.
  • Business Continuity & Resilience: Experience supporting or operating Business Continuity Management (BCM) and/or Disaster Recovery (DR) programs.
  • Industry Knowledge: Knowledge of the insurance industry and regulatory environment is a strong asset.
  • Analytical Thinking: Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Communication: Ability to translate complex risk information into clear, practical insights for a variety of audiences.
  • Relationship Building: Proven ability to build effective working relationships and foster a positive risk-aware culture.
  • Technology Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office and risk management tools or databases.
  • Professional Credentials: Risk or continuity-related certifications are considered an asset.
