Job description

Myticas Consulting is working with a fast-growing Ottawa-based Managed Service Provider that delivers advanced IT solutions across cloud, cybersecurity, infrastructure and digital transformation.

Due to continued client growth and several new customer onboardings, they are looking to add an experienced Level 2/3 Network Administrator & Projects Specialist to their Professional Services team.

This is not primarily a help desk position. The successful candidate will be a strong infrastructure generalist who can combine deep hands-on technical skills with project ownership and client-facing communication.

The role will own assigned client projects from initial scoping and planning through implementation, testing, documentation and handoff, while also supporting larger projects across the Professional Services team.

Current project work includes zero trust initiatives, data centre and server migrations, infrastructure modernization, Microsoft Intune deployments and broader cybersecurity initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, design, implementation and management of client infrastructure projects.
  • Own projects from initial scoping and technical design through implementation, testing, documentation and operational handoff.
  • Architect secure, reliable and scalable infrastructure solutions aligned with client requirements.
  • Coordinate technical resources, project schedules, dependencies, tasks and milestones.
  • Identify project risks, scope changes and potential delays early and communicate them clearly to management and clients.
  • Conduct regular project reviews and provide clear status updates, decisions and next steps.
  • Participate directly in hands-on implementation and troubleshooting when required.
  • Provide Level 2/3 technical escalation support and assist with Service Desk overflow when necessary.
  • Create clear technical documentation, diagrams and post-implementation reports.
  • Perform structured project handoffs to the Service Desk.
  • Mentor junior and intermediate technicians on troubleshooting, architecture and technical best practices.
  • Participate in scheduled after-hours cutovers, migrations and maintenance windows where required.
  • Remain current on emerging infrastructure and cybersecurity technologies and proactively identify solutions that may benefit clients.

Technical Project Experience

The successful candidate should have strong practical experience across several of the following areas:

Networking & Security

  • Firewall deployments and migrations, including Fortinet/FortiGate, Sophos, Cisco ASA and/or pfSense.
  • Layer 2/3 switching, VLAN design, routing and network segmentation.
  • VPNs and SD-WAN.
  • Zero trust security architecture and implementation.
  • MFA, Conditional Access, device compliance and identity-based security.
  • Network segmentation and secure remote-access technologies.

Experience with technologies such as Fortinet ZTNA, Sophos ZTNA, AppGate or Tailscale would be valuable.

Infrastructure & Virtualization

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2016–2022.
  • Active Directory, DNS and DHCP.
  • Server builds and migrations.
  • Domain migrations.
  • High availability and clustering.
  • Storage technologies including NAS, SAN, iSCSI, SMB and NFS.
  • Data centre and infrastructure migrations.
  • Hyper-V, VMware ESXi, XCP-ng and/or Proxmox.

Backup & Disaster Recovery

  • Veeam Backup & Replication.
  • Backup architecture, implementation and recovery testing.
  • Datto or comparable backup / DR platforms.
  • Disaster recovery planning and implementation.

Microsoft Cloud & Modern Workplace

  • Microsoft 365.

  • Ability to move comfortably between technical architecture, project planning and hands-on implementation.
  • Experience managing project schedules, technical resources, milestones, dependencies and risks.
  • Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Comfortable working directly with clients, including senior executives and business leaders.
  • Strong documentation skills.
  • Self-motivated and technically curious, with an interest in testing and learning new technologies.

What They Are Looking For

This role is best suited to someone who is more than a narrow technical specialist.

The client is looking for someone who can understand a customer environment, identify the appropriate solution, build a plan, coordinate the necessary resources and then step in technically when needed.

Strong communication is critical. The successful candidate must be comfortable explaining technical decisions and project status to both technical teams and non-technical business leaders.

They are particularly interested in people who are naturally curious about technology, security threats and new infrastructure solutions and who actively develop their skills beyond day-to-day assigned tasks.

Schedule / Project Expectations

Most project planning, design, scoping and client communication occurs during regular business hours.

Some infrastructure migrations, implementations and cutovers will take place during evenings or weekends to minimize client disruption.

As part of a managed services environment, senior technical staff may also occasionally assist with major client incidents outside normal business hours.
