Job description

Location: Mississauga, ON | On-site
Salary: $110,000 – $140,000
Employment: Full-time, Permanent

An opportunity to lead, build and make a lasting impact.

Are you an experienced Food Safety and Quality leader who enjoys building programs, solving complex challenges, and having a genuine voice in operational decisions?

Our client, a growing food manufacturer in Mississauga, is looking for a Manager, FSQA and Regulatory to lead its quality and regulatory function through an exciting period of growth.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who brings strong technical expertise, sound judgment, and a hands-on approach to quality leadership. You'll have the opportunity to strengthen existing systems, develop new programs, and play an integral role in supporting the organization's continued expansion.

You'll also report to a highly respected VP of R&D and Quality who is known for being a knowledgeable, supportive mentor, a clear communicator, and a fair, thoughtful leader. For someone looking to continue developing professionally while making a meaningful contribution, this is an opportunity worth exploring.

The Opportunity

As Manager, FSQA and Regulatory, you'll provide leadership and oversight across food safety, quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and certification programs.

This is a role with both strategic responsibility and hands-on involvement. You'll be equally comfortable developing a food safety strategy, navigating regulatory requirements, leading an audit, and working alongside production teams to resolve challenges on the manufacturing floor.

A key component of this position will be supporting operational growth, including the development and implementation of food safety and quality systems for new manufacturing operations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead and continually improve food safety and quality management systems, including HACCP, Preventive Control Plans (PCPs), and GFSI-recognized certification programs.

  • Oversee SQF certification, audit readiness, regulatory inspections, corrective actions, and ongoing compliance.

  • Support new manufacturing operations through the development, validation, implementation, and certification of food safety programs.

  • Manage Canadian and US regulatory requirements, including CFIA, SFCR, FDA, and FSMA compliance.

  • Oversee regulatory review and approval of product labels, nutritional information, allergen declarations, and product claims for Canadian and US markets.

  • Lead food safety risk assessments, process validation, environmental monitoring, sanitation verification, and preventive controls.

  • Strengthen supplier quality programs, raw material risk assessments, traceability, and recall readiness.

  • Drive continuous improvement through root cause analysis, CAPA, quality metrics, and trend reporting.

  • Partner closely with R&D, Operations, and Production to ensure food safety and regulatory considerations are integrated into business decisions.

  • Lead, coach, and develop the QA team, fostering a proactive, accountable, and collaborative food safety culture.

What You'll Bring

We're looking for a technically strong, confident quality professional who has demonstrated the ability to take ownership, build programs, and lead effectively in a food manufacturing environment.

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or a related discipline.

  • Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in Food Safety, Quality Assurance, and/or Regulatory Affairs within food manufacturing.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience with accountability for site-level food safety and quality programs.

  • Strong working knowledge of HACCP, GFSI certification standards (SQF preferred), and Canadian food safety regulations.

  • HACCP and PCQI certifications, along with experience implementing and maintaining preventive control programs.

  • Hands-on experience leading certification audits, regulatory inspections, and corrective action programs.

  • Practical knowledge of US food regulatory requirements, including FDA and FSMA.

  • Experience with Canadian and US food labelling requirements, including nutrition, allergens, and regulatory claims.

  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the confidence to make and support sound technical decisions.

Experience that will set you apart:

  • Successfully implementing a GFSI-recognized food safety program and taking a facility through its initial certification.

  • Experience in low-moisture, ready-to-eat, or similarly complex food manufacturing environments.

  • Involvement in new facility start-ups, commissioning, or manufacturing expansion projects.

  • Experience with process validation, environmental monitoring, and risk-based food safety programs.

  • Experience managing regulatory requirements across both Canadian and US markets.

  • A background in a growing organization where you've had the opportunity to build systems rather than simply maintain them.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

Meaningful ownership. You'll have the authority and autonomy to influence how food safety, quality, and regulatory programs are developed and managed.

An exciting stage of growth. You'll contribute to significant operational expansion and have the opportunity to build systems and programs that will support the business for years to come.

Excellent leadership. You'll work directly with an accomplished, approachable VP who values strong technical expertise, open communication, mentorship, and collaboration.

Real variety. This isn't a role confined to an office or a single area of quality. You'll be involved in everything from regulatory strategy and program development to hands-on operational problem-solving.

An opportunity to leave your mark. Your expertise, decisions, and leadership will have a visible and lasting impact on the organization.

Interested in Learning More?

If you're an experienced FSQA leader who enjoys a balance of strategic responsibility, technical problem-solving, and hands-on involvement, I'd welcome the opportunity to speak with you.

Not sure you check every box? If your background includes strong food safety leadership, GFSI certification experience, and an interest in building and improving programs, I'd still encourage you to get in touch.

All inquiries will be handled confidentially.
