Our client is a growing technology company developing high-performance gyroscopes and advanced navigation systems. They are now looking for an experienced Navigation Engineer to help build the navigation solution around their unique gyro technology.

This is a hands-on technical role- You’ll own the navigation and sensor-fusion work from architecture and algorithm development through testing, validation, and product delivery.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and develop GNSS/INS and inertial navigation systems
  • Develop and implement sensor-fusion algorithms and Kalman filters
  • Work with GNSS, odometry, magnetometers, barometers, depth sensors, and other inputs
  • Develop INS mechanization, alignment, initialization, and gyrocompassing
  • Build and improve IMU error models and calibration processes
  • Develop temperature compensation and in-field calibration strategies
  • Design testing and validation programs to measure navigation performance
  • Lead the technical roadmap for INS and sensor fusion
  • Support integration with customers and work directly with their navigation teams

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience building GNSS/INS or inertial navigation systems that have been deployed in real-world applications
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Strapdown inertial navigation
    • Coordinate frames and error propagation
    • Kalman filtering and sensor fusion
    • Alignment and initialization
    • Observability and fault detection
    • GNSS, including RTK or PPP
  • Experience working with navigation systems in GNSS-degraded or denied environments
  • Strong C or C++ programming skills for embedded systems
  • Experience with Python or MATLAB
  • Comfortable working in a small, fast-moving environment where you are both a technical leader and hands-on contributor
  • Eligible to work in Canada and obtain the required Controlled Goods/export-control clearances

Nice to Have

  • Experience with fiber-optic, ring-laser, or other high-performance gyroscopes
  • Defense, aerospace, space, or subsea navigation experience
  • GNSS-denied navigation, including odometry or map-aided navigation
  • Experience leading or growing a small technical team
  • Graduate research in navigation
  • Experience with the ION community
  • French and English bilingual

Why This Role? This is a unique opportunity to take a high-performance gyro technology and turn it into a real navigation product. You’ll have significant technical ownership and the chance to shape the architecture, algorithms, team, and product roadmap from the ground up.
