Your Opportunity:
Challenge yourself in Corrections Health. Our close-knit clinical team is committed to collaborative, patient-centred care within one of Alberta's most unique and dynamic healthcare settings. Reporting to the Corrections Health Services Manager, the Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a key member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team at the Peace River Corrections Health Unit. This is not a traditional primary care position. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive primary, urgent, and episodic care to an adult population with complex and often concurrent physical health, mental health, addiction, and social needs. The NP practices to full scope, utilizing advanced clinical assessment, diagnosis, prescribing, treatment, and consultation skills to deliver evidence-informed care within a secure correctional environment. The patient population presents with diverse and challenging healthcare needs, including chronic disease management, communicable diseases, substance use disorders, withdrawal management, mental health concerns, acute illness and injury, and care coordination across multiple healthcare and community partners. Success in this role requires strong clinical judgment, adaptability, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Working collaboratively with physicians, nursing staff, mental health professionals, allied health providers, community agencies, and correctional services staff, the NP contributes to high-quality care through clinical practice, leadership, education, consultation, quality improvement, and health system optimization. This role offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the health outcomes of a vulnerable and underserved population while practicing in a challenging, rewarding, and professionally enriching environment.
