Arcadis is the world's leading company delivering sustainable design, engineering, and consultancy solutions for natural and built assets.

We are more than 34,000 people, in over 30 countries, dedicated to improving quality of life. Everyone has an important role to play. With the power of many curious minds, together we can solve the world’s most complex challenges and deliver more impact together.

Role description:

As part of a growing and agile business, our Environmental Planning team is looking for a Principal Environmental Consultant with a focus in environmental and social compliance. You will be a technical expert (e.g., environment, social, biodiversity, etc.) with proven experience of delivering complex Environmental and Social Due Diligence (ESDD) and Long-Term Monitoring (ESLTM) to bankable projects in support of multilateral banks, export development agencies and multinational banks across multiple sectors globally.

The role is responsible for providing strategic direction for our ESDD and ESLTM delivery nationally and internationally with Arcadis as independent environmental and social consultant (IESC) to our clients. You will provide the strategic oversight for how ESDD and ESLTM are delivered driving consistency and high-quality outputs. With support from the IESC program manager, you will lead the pursuit of new projects with existing and new clients (e.g., international financial institutions (IFI) as lenders and project proponents). You will also utilize your technical expertise for the delivery of ESDD and ESLTM projects.

The team works on a diverse range of projects including large scale power and energy, mining, pulp and paper, among other industries, for both private and public clients that require a nimble and agile approach. You will play a key role in the successful delivery of multidisciplinary projects and support the review and evaluation of these projects with respect to adherence to accepted international standards such as IFC Performance Standards, Equator Principles, World Bank Group Environmental Health and Safety Guidelines, Good International Industry Practice, and others where applicable.

Role accountabilities:

This role is responsible for driving the quality of IESC delivery across programmatic portfolios by establishing best practices, approving project deliverables, and ensuring consistently high standards across all work. The successful candidate will contribute to business development, bidding activities, and project delivery efforts to support continued growth and excellence in program outcomes. Working closely with the IESC Program Manager, they will help address delivery opportunities and challenges across the portfolio while strengthening key client relationships and identifying cross-selling opportunities both nationally and internationally. The role also involves collaborating with technical experts to define clear accountabilities aligned with sector-specific requirements and serving as a senior technical advisor through technical reviews, mission participation, stakeholder meetings, and reporting activities.

A key aspect of the position is maintaining strong client engagement by gathering regular feedback to drive continuous improvement and support the organization's Quality Management System. The individual will also support Sector Leads across Mining & Materials, Energy, Power, and other sectors by contributing to business development and sales initiatives throughout the Americas.

Qualifications & Experience:

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • Masters’ degree or higher in appropriate area of science.

  • Post-graduate qualification and/or fellowship in an appropriate professional institution preferred.

  • 15 or more years' relevant experience with substantial experience in Environmental Planning and Social Compliance, specifically in the ESDD and ESLTM consultancy work, and in a specific relevant technical discipline (e.g., environment, social, biodiversity, etc.)

They will have a proven track record of pursuing and securing new business opportunities, developing and executing discipline-specific business strategies, and realizing cross-sector growth opportunities.

Success in this role requires strong commercial acumen, key account management experience, and the ability to build and maintain trusted relationships with senior-level clients and stakeholders.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential, including fluency in English and Spanish, while Portuguese is considered a strong asset. The successful candidate will also be willing and able to travel internationally to support project missions and client engagement activities.

The ideal candidate will be externally recognized as a leader in their field, with expert knowledge of international standards and frameworks such as the IFC Performance Standards, Equator Principles, World Bank Group Environmental, Health and Safety Guidelines, and other applicable Good International Industry Practices.
