Our client manufactures packaging for the food industry from its plant in the Greater Toronto Area. The boxes it produces are shipped to food processing facilities, and the plant operates day and evening shifts. It is a small, close-knit operation where every role touches several parts of the business.
Reporting directly to the Plant Manager, you are the operational right hand of the plant. You plan and sequence production, keep the food safety (SQF) system audit-ready, and act as the eyes and ears of health and safety on site. No two days are alike: part of your time is spent in the office on planning, reports, and documentation, and part on the production floor, close to the teams, equipment, and inventory. You work hand in hand with the Production Supervisor, without direct reports. This is a full-time, on-site position.
This posting is for a current vacancy and is actively being recruited for.
Artificial intelligence (AI) tools may be used to support the candidate screening and selection process.
Les tâches
- Plan and sequence the daily production schedule: prioritize orders, track deadlines, and ensure raw materials are available, in collaboration with Purchasing.
- Work with the Production Supervisor to optimize labour and equipment coverage across the day and evening shifts, and participate in daily production meetings.
- Monitor production needs and inventory levels directly on the production floor.
- Participate in the development of the SQF food safety system alongside an external consultant, then maintain it through procedures, forms, version control, and recordkeeping.
- Prepare the plant for customer and certification audits, participate in internal and external audits, and follow up on corrective actions.
- Maintain training records and certifications.
- Act as the plant’s health and safety point of contact and liaison with the EHS Manager, and coordinate the Health and Safety Committee.
- Conduct workplace inspections, identify hazards and near misses, and coordinate corrective actions.
- Manage workplace incidents from start to finish, including investigations, documentation, and WSIB follow-up, with support from the EHS Manager.
- Coordinate mandatory health and safety training and provide backup support to the Production Supervisor during vacations.
Avantages
- Base salary of $74,000 to $82,000, depending on experience.
- Day schedule ending around 4:00 p.m., with a one-hour lunch break.
- Direct reporting relationship with the Plant Manager in a small, collaborative plant environment.
- Hands-on involvement in developing an SQF food safety system alongside a specialized consultant.
- Broad exposure to planning, quality, and health and safety, providing a natural progression toward production management.
- Choice of workspace: an office on the production floor or in the administrative area.
Exigences du poste
- At least 2 years of experience in production planning, scheduling, or coordination within a manufacturing environment (food or packaging industry experience is an asset but not required).
- College diploma or university degree in Operations Management, Logistics, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Exposure to SQF, HACCP, or another GFSI-recognized food safety standard (strong asset).
- Working knowledge of health and safety practices in a manufacturing environment, including hazard and near-miss identification, incident follow-up, and Ontario OHSA requirements; experience with a Health and Safety Committee is an asset.
- Advanced Excel and Microsoft Office skills, along with strong documentation and reporting abilities.
- Strong ability to prioritize and manage requests from multiple departments simultaneously.
- Flexible and hands-on, with the ability to move comfortably between the office and the production floor.
- Strong sense of initiative, curiosity, and a safety-first mindset.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
