  • A safety-conscious individual who takes pride in delivering high-quality workmanship.
  • Someone who can confidently interpret technical drawings, schematics, and equipment specifications.
  • A proactive problem-solver who can identify issues, recommend solutions, and work with minimal supervision.
  • A dependable team player who communicates effectively and supports a collaborative working environment.

Responsibilities and Duties Include:

  • Install, assemble, test, troubleshoot, and commission refrigeration systems and associated components within custom air handling units.
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings, refrigeration schematics, piping diagrams, electrical drawings, and equipment specifications.
  • Install and connect refrigeration components, including compressors, condensers, evaporators, expansion valves, filter-driers, pressure switches, solenoid valves, and associated controls.
  • Fabricate, assemble, and install refrigerant piping using approved cutting, bending, fitting, and brazing techniques.
  • Perform high-quality brazing of copper refrigerant piping using appropriate materials, equipment, and nitrogen purging practices.
  • Conduct nitrogen pressure testing, leak detection, system evacuation, and dehydration in accordance with applicable standards and manufacturer specifications.
  • Charge refrigeration systems with appropriate refrigerants, verify operating pressures and temperatures, and confirm proper system performance.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot refrigeration system issues, including refrigerant leaks, compressor faults, airflow concerns, control malfunctions, and performance deficiencies.
  • Test and adjust refrigeration controls, thermostats, pressure controls, and other operating and safety devices.
  • Install, inspect, test, and troubleshoot gas-fired heating equipment, burners, valves, regulators, and associated controls, where appropriately certified and authorized.
  • Perform gas pressure testing, combustion analysis, and equipment adjustments in accordance with applicable codes and manufacturer requirements, where qualified.
  • Work with Engineering and Production teams to identify design concerns, resolve technical issues, and recommend improvements to equipment assembly and performance.
  • Support equipment start-up, functional testing, and quality inspections to ensure completed units meet customer specifications and internal quality standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of testing, inspections, refrigerant handling, and equipment performance as required.
  • Ensure all work complies with applicable refrigeration, gas, electrical, environmental, and occupational health and safety requirements.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe, clean, and organized condition.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to less experienced team members when required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Education

  • Secondary school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on experience in commercial or industrial refrigeration, HVAC installation, servicing, commissioning, or related work.
  • Ontario 313A Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic certification strongly preferred, or equivalent relevant trade experience and qualifications.
  • Valid G1 or G2 Gas Technician certification strongly preferred.
  • Valid ODP (Ozone Depletion Prevention) certification required for duties involving regulated refrigerant handling.
  • Strong working knowledge of refrigeration cycles, refrigerant piping, compressors, expansion devices, controls, and system operation.
  • Demonstrated experience with refrigeration system installation, pressure testing, evacuation, charging, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with gas-fired heating equipment, burners, gas trains, and combustion systems considered a strong asset.
  • Proven ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, piping diagrams, electrical schematics, and technical specifications.
  • Experience working with commercial HVAC equipment, custom air handling units, rooftop units, or industrial refrigeration systems preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with experience using refrigeration gauges, vacuum pumps, leak detectors, multimeters, and other diagnostic equipment.
  • Knowledge of applicable Ontario gas regulations, refrigeration standards, and safe refrigerant handling practices.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with Production, Engineering, and Quality teams.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and commitment to quality workmanship.
