About The Role
Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Accountant is the hands-on technical and team lead for Uptime Industrial’s day-to-day accounting. The role owns month-end close, reconciliations and job costing accuracy, and supervises the Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable Specialists.
It’s an opportunity to help build a finance function from the ground up, working alongside the Controller to implement processes, controls and systems as Uptime integrates QuickBooks Enterprise with ServiceTitan.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supervise, coach and review the work of the Accounts Receivable Specialist and Accounts Payable Specialist; set daily priorities and act as the first escalation point;
- Own the month-end close: journal entries, accruals, prepaids and adjusting entries, completed on schedule;
- Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations (bank, AR, AP, accruals, fixed assets) and resolve discrepancies;
- Support WIP, job costing (cost coding) and revenue recognition, working with project managers to make sure costs and billings are captured accurately;
- Maintain daily cash flow information and support timely AR collection and vendor payments;
- Prepare and file GST and BC PST returns, and support sales tax compliance on invoicing and payments;
- Prepare supporting schedules for monthly and quarterly financial statements and budget-to-actual analysis for the Controller;
- Lead audit preparation, including working papers and lead schedules;
- Support the Controller with the QuickBooks Enterprise and ServiceTitan integration: testing, validating and documenting workflows;
- Build and document SOPs and controls for the team’s processes.
What You Bring
The ideal candidate is a hands-on accounting professional who genuinely enjoys leading, supporting, and developing others. You are approachable and collaborative, but also comfortable setting expectations, holding yourself and others accountable, and providing constructive feedback when needed. You are a critical thinker who exercises sound judgment, takes ownership, and enjoys wearing multiple hats. You are both a coach and a cheerleader for your team, willing to jump in when needed while creating a positive, accountable environment where people can succeed.
Our Must Haves
- Hands-on technical accounting experience in a project-driven environment, including job costing;
- Naturally investigative; enjoys fixing and improving processes, and documents as they go;
- 1-2 years of experience supervising or leading at least one team member, with comfort giving direction and feedback;
- CPA designation, or progress toward one, is an asset. We value hands-on, full-cycle experience over credentials;
- 4+ years of progressive full-cycle accounting experience;
- Able to explain financial matters clearly to non-financial staff, including trades and project managers;
- Collaborative and solution-focused; comfortable asking questions and reaching out across the business for information;
- Experience in construction, industrial services or another project-based business is a strong asset.
Your Rewards
Our most important offering to anyone that joins the Uptime Industrial team is our culture of innovation, achievement, and ownership. We bring out the best in each other by constantly striving to be world class in all we do. These values are reflected in our Work, our Company, and our People.
At Uptime, we also offer a very competitive compensation structure that supplements your regular income with a robust benefits package:
