Job description

Walvis Technologies, an Ottawa consulting and development firm, is hiring a senior Angular front-end developer to build and modernize the web front ends we deliver for government and enterprise clients.

The requirements

Four things are firm. Please apply only if all four are true.

  • At least 8 years of professional front-end development in Angular. Paid, production work on Angular applications.
  • You live in Canada. The role is remote within Canada. Ottawa is preferred.
  • You are eligible to obtain a Government of Canada security clearance.
  • You apply for yourself, and you do the work yourself. No recruiters, no staffing agencies, no outsourcing firms. The role cannot be subcontracted.

About Walvis

Walvis Technologies is an Ottawa consulting and development firm, established in 2012. We design, build and support Microsoft cloud, AI and content systems for government and enterprise: citizen portals, records systems, custom applications and AI tools.

Everyone is in-house. The people who design a solution also build and support it, so nothing gets lost between the plan and the code.

What you'll do

  • Build new Angular front ends for the web applications and portals we deliver, from the first screen to production.
  • Modernize existing front ends: move older Angular code to current versions and patterns without breaking what users rely on.
  • Turn requirements and designs into interfaces that are accessible, responsive and fast.
  • Work with back-end developers on the APIs your screens depend on: contracts, authentication, error handling, loading and empty states.
  • Write tests, review pull requests and keep the codebase easy for the next person to change.
  • Work directly with clients: run demos, ask the questions that matter and explain trade-offs in plain language.

What you bring

  • Modern Angular: standalone components, signals, the built-in control flow, lazy-loaded routes, reactive forms and dependency injection, and a working knowledge of how change detection behaves.
  • RxJS used with judgement: you know when a stream is the right tool and when a signal is simpler.
  • State management: NgRx or a similar approach, and the sense to keep a small app simple.
  • TypeScript, HTML and CSS/SCSS at a senior level, including responsive layouts that hold up on a phone.
  • Accessibility: you build to WCAG 2.1 AA with semantic HTML, and you test with a keyboard and a screen reader.
  • Testing: unit tests (Jest, or Jasmine and Karma) and end-to-end tests (Cypress or Playwright).
  • Performance: bundle size, lazy loading, rendering cost and Core Web Vitals.
  • Team habits: Git, pull requests, code review given and received well, and CI pipelines.

Assets

None of these are required. Each one helps.

  • Upgrading a large Angular application across several major versions, or migrating from AngularJS.
  • Angular server-side rendering and hydration.
  • Building or maintaining a component library or design system.
  • The Microsoft stack we work in: Azure, Entra ID sign-in (MSAL), Azure DevOps, and front ends that talk to .NET APIs, Dynamics 365 or Power Platform.
  • Front-end work on public-sector projects.

Good to know

  • Full-time.
  • Remote from anywhere in Canada. Ottawa is preferred.
  • French is not required.
  • Salary is discussed with shortlisted candidates.

How to apply
