Job description

GC AI is the legal intelligence platform built for in-house legal teams and companies. Your decisions shape the product, your impact is immediate, and you own your work from day one.

More than 2,100 companies run their legal work on GC AI, including 300+ public companies, 75+ unicorns, and teams at Nestlé, Hitachi Digital, Lockheed Martin, Miro, Bass Pro Shops, Riot Games, SKIMS, Liquid Death, Vercel, TIME, and Post Holdings. The platform holds an 80 NPS, more than double the B2B SaaS industry average, reinforcing GC AI as the leading legal AI platform for companies of all sizes.

GC AI has doubled ARR in six months. We won #1 Highest Customer Satisfaction at the 2026 SaaS Awards. Our investors include Scale Venture Partners, Northzone, Sound Ventures, and Guillermo Rauch, CEO of Vercel.

You’ll define how things get built, not follow someone else’s playbook. Six principles guide how the team works:

  • 📈 1% Better Every Day: small, compounding improvements across everything you ship.

  • ❤️‍🔥 Customer Obsession: start with the customer and work backward.

  • 🚀 Ship Today: bias toward action and iteration over perfection.

  • 🧗 Find a Way: resourcefulness and ambition over constraint.

  • 🤝 Care: be direct, like an honest friend, even when it’s uncomfortable.

  • 🎯 Own It: full accountability, proactive communication, and attention to detail.

About The Role

As Senior Commercial Counsel, you'll be a core member of GC AI's commercial legal team, owning a high volume of customer-side negotiations while helping build the processes and templates that let the business move faster. This role is for someone who can run independently on complex deals, knows when to escalate, and genuinely enjoys the rhythm of supporting a sales team that's closing business at speed. You'll work across MSAs, order forms, DPAs, NDAs, and customer paper, and you'll have real influence over how GC AI's commercial legal function scales.

The Impact You Will Have

  • Directly enable GC AI's revenue growth by keeping deals moving with speed and sound judgment.

  • Strengthen commercial legal processes by contributing to playbooks, templates, and self-serve resources that scale with the business.

  • Build trust with sales and customer success teams as a reliable, business-minded legal partner.

  • Help shape how GC AI uses its own product in day-to-day commercial legal work.

What You'll Do

  • Manage a high volume of customer-side negotiations, including reviewing and redlining customer paper and bespoke terms.

  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements (MSAs, order forms, DPAs, NDAs).

  • Support sales teams through deal cycles, understanding their timelines and quarter-end pressures.

  • Work independently on the full range of commercial matters while knowing when to escalate complex issues.

  • Explain legal concepts clearly to non-legal stakeholders across sales, product, and customer success.

  • Balance legal risk management with business objectives to maintain deal velocity.

  • Contribute to developing scalable legal processes, templates, and playbooks for go-to-market teams.

  • Support vendor-side contracting as needed.

  • Take on additional projects and tasks as needed in response to the evolving needs of a fast-growing startup.

Required Experience

  • JD and active bar membership in at least one US jurisdiction.

  • 5-9 years of technology transactions experience in a B2B SaaS environment.

  • In-house legal experience.

  • Strong drafting and negotiation skills, particularly with commercial agreements (MSAs, order forms, DPAs, NDAs).

  • Ability to manage a high volume of customer-side negotiations, including reviewing and redlining customer paper and bespoke terms.

  • Experience supporting sales teams and understanding their timelines and pressures.

  • Ability to work independently while knowing when to escalate complex matters.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain legal concepts clearly to non-legal stakeholders.

  • Proven ability to balance legal risk management with business objectives.

  • Comfort working under pressure, particularly during month-end closing periods.

Nice To Have

  • Experience at a high-growth startup or scale-up company.

  • Experience at a big law firm in a technology group.

  • Familiarity with AI, machine learning, or legal technology sectors.

  • Privacy certification (CIPP/US, CIPP/E) or substantive privacy experience.

  • Experience advising on AI-related legal issues.

  • Experience developing scalable legal processes, templates, or playbooks for go-to-market teams.

  • Vendor-side contracting experience.

  • You are already a GC AI user.

A Note On Pace

We’re building something new in a once-in-a-generation shift in technology and the legal industry, so we move at a relentless pace. We expect urgency, ownership, and good judgment even when things aren’t perfectly clear. If you need structure and consensus to do your best work, this isn’t the right place for you. If you thrive in ambiguity and growth, work with intensity, and want real responsibility, keep reading. We’re excited to meet you.

How We Work Together

GC AI is a distributed company with team members across North America, and soon Europe. We believe that because our business is AI, human connection matters more, not less. We invest in bringing people together through our hub model: regular coworking sessions, customer dinners, team and company offsites. If you’re in a location without an office, expect up to 10% travel (and more for customer-facing roles).

Team members in the San Francisco Bay Area and Provo, UT (within 50 miles of the office) work together on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. As we grow, we plan to establish permanent offices in more hub cities, and we will look to our team members to help build that in-person culture. We currently hire across the United States and Canada.
