As a commercial subject matter expert, you will provide guidance to project teams throughout the contract lifecycle, ensuring contractual obligations are understood, risks are proactively managed, claims are mitigated, and commercial matters are resolved efficiently and fairly.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Evaluating and processing work plans, work assignments, contract amendments, change directives, invoices, claims submissions, notices, and contractual correspondence.
  • Administering contract changes, commercial negotiations, amendments, payment applications, holdbacks, certificates of payment, and contract close-out activities.
  • Assessing and negotiating contractor and consultant claims, proposed pricing adjustments, scope changes, schedule impacts, and entitlement issues.
  • Supporting claims avoidance strategies, dispute mitigation efforts, commercial negotiations, and formal dispute resolution processes where required.
  • Monitoring contractor performance and advising project teams on contractual obligations, risk management strategies, and compliance requirements.
  • Preparing commercial analyses, estimates, forecasts, recommendations, and management reports.
  • Maintaining accurate contract records and documentation within TTC contract management systems.
  • Supporting performance reviews, lessons learned initiatives, and continuous improvement activities within Commercial Management.

What Qualifications Do You Bring?

  • University degree or college diploma in Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Contract Management, Business Administration, Commerce, Law, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Significant experience administering post-award construction, engineering, consulting, or professional services contracts.
  • Strong experience supporting large capital infrastructure, engineering, transit, transportation, or construction projects.
  • Demonstrated expertise in contract administration, commercial management, contract interpretation, change management, and contractor performance management.
  • Experience in claims management, commercial negotiations, dispute avoidance, dispute resolution, entitlement assessments, contract enforcement, and settlement negotiations is required.
  • Strong understanding of construction contracts, contract law, procurement principles, commercial risk management, and project delivery methodologies.
  • Experience administering progress payments, certificates of payment, holdbacks, back charges, liquidated damages, amendments, and final account settlements.
  • Knowledge of the Construction Act and standard construction and consulting contract forms.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong analytical, commercial, financial, and problem-solving capabilities.
