The award-winning team at Cottage Life is looking for a Senior Editor with 7-10 years of experience producing exceptional content for print and digital. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently handling substantive edits on features, columns, and front-of-book stories; developing content ideas and editorial packages for print and online; recruiting and assigning stories to writers; and participating in other aspects of the editorial process, including copy editing and proofreading. In addition to handling print stories, they’ll have sharp digital skills, in particular experience in newsletter strategy and production, and thorough knowledge of Mailchimp. They will

Since we want our stories to offer both good advice and a good read, they’ll also have a sense of fun and a lively imagination.

A flexible, can-do attitude is a must, as is the ability to problem solve and find solutions in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

This role will report to the Editor-in-Chief of Cottage Life and is a hybrid position requiring in-office attendance at our head office in Toronto for a minimum of three (3) days per week.

The anticipated salary range for this role is $65,000 - $75,000 per year, with final compensation determined by experience and qualifications.

  • Researching and developing story ideas for print and digital
  • Contributing to pitch and strategy meetings
  • Copy editing and packaging digital stories using SEO best practices for cottagelife.com
  • Writing and curating a weekly newsletter
  • Meeting the highest journalistic standards of transparency and accuracy for all content

Qualifications and Experience

  • Thorough knowledge of publishing trends, including in the digital space
  • 7-10+ years of editing experience, including work at a print publication
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe InCopy on Mac
  • The ability to communicate a clear editorial vision while working collaboratively across the editorial and art teams
  • Digital and newsletter experience, including working with a CMS (preferably WordPress) and on Mailchimp
  • A network of contributors and creatives to help shape and develop stories
  • A strong passion for Canadian magazines
  • Project management experience is an asset
