Career Opportunity
Are you an experienced engineering and project management professional who thrives on delivering complex capital programs from concept to completion? Join the TTC's Engineering, Construction & Expansion (EC&E) team as a Senior Project Engineer, where you will lead the planning, design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover of major multi-year capital projects that support the safe and reliable operation of Toronto's transit system.
This role is ideal for a professional who enjoys managing large multidisciplinary programs such as structural rehabilitation programs, paving programs, facility renewal initiatives, station improvements, state-of-good-repair projects, and other complex infrastructure investments.
What You Will Do
Reporting to the Project Manager, you will develop and prepare work plans for multi-year, multi-discipline capital projects and programs while coordinating, controlling, monitoring, and supervising all phases of project delivery from inception through project close-out. You will be accountable for ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with approved quality standards and project objectives.
You will work closely with project teams, operating departments, consultants, contractors, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders to develop project scopes, establish budgets and schedules, secure approvals, and advance projects through planning, design, procurement, construction, commissioning, handover, and closeout. You will be responsible for coordinating multiple project components concurrently, often across several contracts and disciplines.
As a senior technical lead, you will guide consultant and in-house design teams throughout the design process, ensuring project requirements are reflected in designs, engineering milestones are achieved, stakeholder comments are resolved, and projects remain aligned with approved scope, budget, quality, and schedule objectives. You will oversee the preparation of construction contract documents and support procurement activities, including consultant selection processes, tender reviews, technical evaluations, and contract award recommendations.
During construction, you will provide engineering leadership and project management support to Construction Site Managers and project teams by coordinating engineering changes, resolving technical issues, supporting claims and contract administration activities, and ensuring projects progress effectively through commissioning and final handover. You will facilitate communication among stakeholders and provide timely issue resolution to support successful project delivery.
You will also prepare project budgets, business cases, Board Reports, capital submissions, presentations, status reports, and project updates for senior leadership. The role requires regular engagement with internal and external stakeholders, including consultants, contractors, public agencies, utility providers, municipal stakeholders, and operating departments.
A key responsibility of this position is overseeing complex capital programs and ensuring projects are coordinated across multiple disciplines and stakeholders. Whether delivering structural rehabilitation programs, paving initiatives, facility renewals, or other major infrastructure projects, you will provide leadership throughout the project lifecycle while balancing operational, financial, engineering, and stakeholder requirements.
