The successful candidate will be a trusted technical resource who leads by example, promotes professional excellence, and mentors colleagues to strengthen the organization's overall capabilities. This position requires a combination of field and office work, with travel and remote field assignments as necessary.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of regional quality assurance and quality control programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Conduct and review fieldwork and office-based technical work to ensure compliance with applicable professional standards and project requirements.
  • Analyze field data and prepare comprehensive reports, recommendations, treatment plans, prescriptions, and other technical deliverables.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of project scope, technical specifications, quality standards, and deliverable requirements.
  • Maintain accountability for the accuracy and quality of your own work and contribute to the review and oversight of colleagues' work.
  • Ensure project teams meet established quality, productivity, schedule, and budget objectives.
  • Oversee the timely preparation and submission of complete, accurate, and professionally presented project deliverables.
  • Communicate project progress, identify potential challenges, and recommend practical solutions to address emerging issues.
  • Promote a strong safety culture by following established occupational health and safety standards and ensuring safe work practices are maintained.

Field Operations and Professional Engagement

  • Support the oversight and administration of external contractors, including evaluating work quality, reviewing deliverables, and assessing payment requirements when applicable.
  • Ensure field activities comply with applicable legislation, safety requirements, and professional standards.
  • Oversee accurate and complete field data collection by yourself and other team members.
  • Where applicable, support project managers in ensuring field teams understand and follow emergency response procedures.
  • Maintain effective communication with field crews, transportation providers, contractors, and other stakeholders, including the use of appropriate communication equipment.
  • Participate in field assignments in challenging environmental conditions and remote locations, including steep or heavily vegetated terrain.
  • Travel to field sites using appropriate transportation methods, which may include trucks, boats, ATVs, floatplanes, and helicopters.
  • Maintain the physical fitness and readiness required to perform fieldwork safely and effectively.

Technical Leadership and Business Support

  • Contribute to the development, review, auditing, and ongoing improvement of technical policies, procedures, and operational standards.
  • Provide technical expertise and support across regional teams, including subject matter guidance and assistance with project planning, operational assessments, scheduling, and cost analysis.
  • Support the preparation of project bids and proposals by providing technical input on scope, methodology, timelines, quality requirements, and anticipated costs.
  • Collaborate with leadership and colleagues to identify opportunities to improve technical processes, project execution, and organizational performance.
  • Serve as a technical resource for clients, colleagues, and other professionals, providing sound recommendations and practical solutions.

Training, Mentorship, and Professional Development

  • Mentor and support colleagues by sharing technical knowledge, practical experience, and industry best practices.
  • Help strengthen team capabilities through coaching, guidance, and on-the-job training.
  • Participate in the annual review and continuous improvement of internal training policies, procedures, materials, and structured on-the-job training programs.
  • Provide guidance on operational and silviculture-related practices, including silviculture systems and activities, harvesting systems, visual and archaeological considerations, retention strategies, windthrow management, and riparian management.
  • Lead by example through professionalism, reliability, organization, sound judgment, effective communication, and a commitment to customer service.

  • Strong technical knowledge and practical experience in a relevant natural resource discipline.
  • Project management experience is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership, quality oversight, and mentorship.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with clients, colleagues, contractors, and external stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities, with a commitment to delivering high-quality work within established timelines and budgets.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset, combined with the ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented organization.
  • Willingness and ability to travel throughout assigned regions, participate in camp-based work rotations, and attend industry conferences, workshops, and trade shows as required.
  • Ability to work safely and effectively in remote field environments and challenging terrain.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's licence.
  • Commitment to maintaining high professional standards, personal accountability, workplace safety, and continuous professional development.
