We are seeking a co-op / work-integrated learning (WIL) student to support a trade compliance documentation project at our head office in Red Deer, Alberta. This opportunity offers practical experience with manufacturing data, product costing, and international trade documentation.

About the Opportunity

  • You will help develop a reference document to support Canalta’s Canada–United States–Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) compliance review for fittings and meter runs shipped to the United States. • Practical experience analyzing bills of materials, supplier information, product costs, and sales data.
  • Exposure to international trade requirements and CUSMA-related documentation.
  • An opportunity to complete a meaningful project and strengthen your analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

What You Will Do

  • Collect and organize item numbers, product descriptions, and sales prices for fittings and meter runs shipped to the United States.
  • Review bills of materials (BOMs) to identify component parts, their suppliers, and associated costs.
  • Gather available component country-of-origin information and Harmonized System (HS) codes from company and supplier records.
  • Build Excel worksheets to connect product, component, supplier, and costing information.
  • Perform cost-to-sales-price ratio analysis and support regional value content calculations using an established approach.
  • Identify missing information, inconsistencies, and items requiring further review.
  • Work with internal employees to clarify information and verify source data.
  • Prepare an organized reference document that records information sources, assumptions, and outstanding questions, and can be maintained as products or costs change.

What You Will Need

  • Current enrolment in Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics post-secondary program with eligibility for a co-op WIL placement.
  • Strong Excel skills, including formulas and the ability to organize and analyze large amounts of data.
  • Attention to detail and a methodical approach to checking information.
  • An interest in manufacturing, product costing, supply chains, or international trade.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to ask questions when information is incomplete or unclear.
  • The ability to manage assigned work, document progress, and handle confidential business information appropriately.
  • Experience with Excel lookup functions, PivotTables, Power Query, or an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system would be an asset. Previous CUSMA experience is not required.
