Job description

On behalf of our client, Maritime Broadcasting System Limited (MBS Radio), we are looking for an Accounts Receivable & Payable Clerk to join their accounting team in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

About Our Client:

MBS Radio is a locally owned and operated broadcasting company with radio stations serving communities throughout Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island.

With a strong presence across the Maritimes, MBS Radio connects local communities through radio while supporting businesses with advertising and marketing opportunities. Behind the scenes, their accounting team plays an important role in keeping operations running smoothly across multiple stations and markets.

The Opportunity:

If you're someone who enjoys working with numbers, keeping things organized, and making sure the details are taken care of, this could be a great opportunity to join an established Maritime company.

As the Accounts Receivable & Payable Clerk, you'll support the day-to-day financial operations of MBS Radio, working closely with the accounting team, station managers, and sales representatives across the Maritimes.

This is a hands-on position with a strong focus on processing transactions, maintaining accurate records, and following up on outstanding accounts. You'll also have the opportunity to assist with month-end and year-end accounting activities.

The beginning of each month is particularly busy, so you'll need to be comfortable managing deadlines, staying organized, and keeping things moving when priorities compete.

The Ideal Candidate:

You're organized, detail-oriented, and enjoy working with numbers. You take pride in accuracy, follow through on your responsibilities, and aren't afraid to ask questions or follow up when something doesn't look quite right.

You bring experience in accounts payable, accounts receivable, bookkeeping, data entry, or a similar administrative role involving financial information. An accounting background would certainly be an asset, but we're also interested in candidates who have strong administrative skills, are comfortable learning new systems, and have a genuine interest in accounting.

Strong communication is especially important. You'll be working with employees across multiple locations, including sales representatives and station managers, so you should feel comfortable reaching out, asking questions, and following up on outstanding information.

Responsibilities:

  • Process and record accounts payable invoices and supporting documentation.

  • Assist with employee expense reports and corporate credit card documentation.

  • Process accounts receivable transactions and maintain accurate customer accounts.

  • Monitor outstanding and aging accounts, communicating with the sales team and station managers regarding overdue balances.

  • Assist with customer billing, adjustments, credits, and account maintenance.

  • Investigate discrepancies and follow up on missing or incomplete financial information.

  • Maintain organized electronic financial records and supporting documentation.

  • Support monthly financial close procedures and recurring accounting deadlines.

  • Assist with year-end accounting requirements and external audits or reviews.

  • Provide general accounting and administrative support to the finance team.

  • Assist with additional accounting duties and projects as required.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in accounts receivable, accounts payable, bookkeeping, financial data entry, or a related administrative position.

  • Basic understanding of accounting principles is considered an asset.

  • Experience with QuickBooks Online and DEXT is considered an asset.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Outlook.

  • Comfortable learning new accounting software and electronic document management systems.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy when processing financial information.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet recurring deadlines.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Comfortable following up with colleagues, customers, and vendors regarding outstanding information.

  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.

  • Willingness to learn new systems and processes.

  • Experience with WideOrbit or radio broadcasting software is not required, as training will be provided.

Benefits

  • Annual salary of $45,000–$52,500, dependent on experience and qualifications.

  • Three weeks of paid vacation, with flexibility based on experience.

  • Comprehensive benefits package, including dental, vision, life, and disability insurance.

  • RRSP matching program.

  • Monday–Friday schedule, generally between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., with some scheduling flexibility.

  • Full-time, permanent position.

  • Fully in-office at 90 Lovett Lake Court, Halifax, Nova Scotia.

  • Free on-site parking.

  • Access to an on-site gym.

  • Casual dress environment.

  • Training provided on industry-specific software and internal processes.

  • Opportunity to gain experience across multiple accounting functions within an established maritime organization.
