Job description
AI Development Manager

Company:

Boeing Vancouver

Boeing Vancouver is seeking an AI Development Manager to join the Boeing Global Services (BGS) - Digital Services Technology organization, reporting to the Senior Manager of AI & Analytics.

This position is based in our Richmond, British Columbia office, with a hybrid work arrangement combining remote and in-office work.

BGS Digital Services delivers software, data products and platform solutions that enable commercial aviation around the world. As the AI Development Manager, you will join a diverse, international team and -- with your leadership -- you will help deliver a generation of AI-enabled and intelligent solutions to global aviation.

This role leads a platform capability development team of data scientists, AI engineers and other data professionals, with two core accountabilities:

  • developing and deploying agentic AI capabilities supporting commercial offerings and
  • ensuring the safety, quality and security of those capabilities

You will lead the development of shared AI/ML capabilities powering commercial products and services. Working with product and platform teams, you will own, develop and sustain harnesses and agents meeting business throughout the AI lifecycle and enable teams to deliver reliable AI-powered products. You will be responsible for their safety, quality and security in partnership with your governance stakeholders and leaders.

We are seeking a technically credible leader with hands-on experience delivering production AI/ML solutions, particularly agentic systems. You will bring the practical understanding needed to guide engineering decisions, assess technical tradeoffs and develop strong technical talent.

This role also requires strong collaboration across Boeing. You will build relationships with other business units and enterprise functions to align technical approaches, leverage shared capabilities and expertise, and contribute to broader Boeing AI initiatives. You will translate relevant enterprise requirements into practical implementation within Digital Services and represent the portfolio’s needs and experience in cross-Boeing collaboration.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develop Shared AI/ML Capabilities: Lead delivery of high-priority, reusable AI/ML services, components and tooling for commercial products and services. These will be platform-level harnesses, agents and tools, supporting multiple customer-facing offerings.
  • Steer AI Safety & Quality: partnering with the AI Governance leadership, advise on and develop both guardrails and evaluation frameworks
  • Enable Product Teams: Help teams adopt shared platform AI capabilities and meet established safety, quality and governance requirements through practical tooling, guidance and engineering support.
  • Build Partnerships Across Boeing: Develop and maintain relationships with other Boeing business units and functions, including engineering, IT, cybersecurity, safety, quality and governance stakeholders. Represent Digital Services in relevant AI initiatives, share expertise, identify opportunities for reuse and collaboration, and align portfolio delivery with enterprise requirements.
  • Develop Integrated Roadmaps: Partner with product and platform management to establish technical strategies, priorities and delivery roadmaps, balancing business value, technical risk, dependencies and team capacity.
  • Lead and Develop People: Manage, coach and motivate employees and contractors across data science, AI engineering, data engineering and software development. Recruit talent and support professional growth.
  • Drive Delivery and Customer Outcomes: Guide capabilities from ideas and requirements through deployment and operation. Maintain effective customer and stakeholder relationships and measure adoption, quality, reliability and business value.

This position is hybrid. This means that the selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at Richmond location. This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Candidates must have at least one year of experience in a leadership role (team leader, temp manager, large scale cross functional project/program management, or formal manager experience) OR have completed the Boeing internal course “Exploring Leadership”

  • 1+ years of experience delivering agentic AI services or capabilities
  • Demonstrated ability to build cross-functional relationships, influence stakeholders and communicate technical decisions to technical and nontechnical audiences
  • Must consent to Canadian Government Controlled Goods Program (CGP) assessment
