Job description

Why Cardinal Mechanical?

At Cardinal Mechanical, the proud plumbing division of Rockport, we don't just offer a job—we offer a stable, thriving environment where you can build a long-term career. We do things differently here to ensure our crew is taken care of, both on and off the tools. When you join our apprentice team, you get:

  • Zero Layoffs & 100% Internal Stability: Say goodbye to seasonal slowdowns or stress between projects. We work exclusively on Rockport's internal pipeline of projects, ensuring guaranteed, full-time hours 12 months a year.
  • One Team, Same Goal: Forget the usual toxic finger-pointing between different trades on site. Because we operate entirely alongside our own internal divisions—like Nitro Electric—we work as a unified internal team. Everyone is on the same page, working toward the same goal, making your day-to-day workflow smoother and way less frustrating.
  • Exclusive Discounted Apartment Rates: Looking for a premium, modern place to live? Our crew gets exclusive, discounted rental rates on the very buildings we build and manage right here in Winnipeg.
  • Fast-Track Career Growth: We recognize and reward hard work. If you show up with a great attitude and grind hard, you will see quick promotions, fast upward mobility, and a clear path to becoming a future Foreman.
  • 100% Winnipeg Work: Keep your commute short and predictable. All of our projects are located right here in Winnipeg—no out-of-town travel or living out of suitcases required.
  • Comprehensive Compensation: Enjoy competitive hourly wages tailored to your apprenticeship level, steady full-time hours, and a solid health and benefits package.

About the Role

We are looking for motivated and enthusiastic Level 2, 3, and 4 Plumbing Apprentices to join our growing team. In this role, you will work directly alongside licensed Red Seal Journeypersons on large-scale apartment and multi-family residential builds across Winnipeg. This is the perfect opportunity to keep your hours consistent, learn from elite pros, refine your commercial-scale residential skills, and successfully stack hours toward earning your ticket.

Key Responsibilities

  • System Installation & Rough-ins: Measure, cut, assemble, and install plumbing, drainage, venting, and water distribution systems within multi-unit residential structures.
  • Blueprint Reading: Read and interpret basic mechanical blueprints, architectural schematics, and building codes to execute layouts accurately under guidance.
  • Tool Proficiency & Craftsmanship: Safely and efficiently use hand tools, power tools, and relevant soldering or cutting equipment basic to your apprenticeship level.
  • Seamless Trade Collaboration: Coordinate hand-in-hand with our internal electrical division (Nitro Electric) and structural teams. Because we are all part of the Rockport family, you will learn how to work seamlessly across trades.
  • Safety & Compliance: Work safely and productively while strictly adhering to provincial safety regulations and the Manitoba Plumbing Code. Maintain a clean, organized work area.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Apprenticeship Status: Must be currently registered as a Level 2, 3, or 4 Plumbing Apprentice with Apprenticeship Manitoba.
  • Physical Capabilities: Must be physically fit, capable of handling heavy lifting, standing for extended periods, and comfortable safely working at heights and on ladders.
  • Relevant Experience: Prior experience working on multi-family residential projects (apartments, condos) or large-scale commercial wood-frame/concrete builds is a major asset.
  • Tools & Gear: Must have your own hand tools basic to your apprenticeship level, as well as CSA-approved steel-toe boots.
  • Skills & Attitude: Strong work ethic, punctuality, a safety-first mindset, and a desire to learn and advance quickly.
  • Transit: A valid Manitoba driver’s licence and a reliable vehicle to travel to various job sites within Winnipeg.
