Job description

Assistant Coach, HoopLife League

Location: Regina, SK (In-Person)

Hours: One night a week for a ten week season.

Pay: $18.50 to $22 an hour

An assistant coach works alongside the head coach on a league night: running a group through the training block, then coaching a team through its two games. You need to know basketball well enough to take a group on your own.

HoopLife Basketball runs the HoopLife Centre at 661 Solomon Cres in Regina: weekly skills sessions, the HoopLife League, camps through every school break, open gym, and Young Stars for our youngest players. We also run basketball clinics for communities right across Canada, and our own training app, with thousands of drills and workouts built by the same coaches who run the Centre. Everything we do is built to make a young player more confident, on the floor and off it.

What you would do

  • Take one group of ten through the training block while the head coach runs the floor.
  • Coach a team through its two games on the night.
  • Keep the energy up, correct one thing at a time, and keep every player moving.
  • Greet the players and their parents on the way in and on the way out.
  • Complete a criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening before your first shift. We walk you through it.

Who this suits

  • Players who know the game well and want to learn to coach it properly.
  • High school and university players who want a weekly job in the gym.
  • People who have helped with a team before and want their own group next.

What you get

  • A head coach beside you every week, which is how you learn this job.
  • The written plan for every night, so you are never guessing.
  • A path to running your own division next season.
  • Access to the HoopLife Centre to train on your own time.

Questions people ask

Do I need experience?

You need to know basketball properly, from playing it or from coaching it. You do not need a certificate, and you do not need to have run a session the way we run them. We teach you that part, with a head coach beside you every week.

How many hours is it?

One night a week through a ten week season.

What does it pay?

$18.50 to $22 an hour.

Can this turn into more?

Yes. A lot of our head coaches and session coaches came through this job first.

How old do you have to be?

Eighteen and up. If you are younger, our scorekeeper job starts at sixteen and is a good way in.

How to apply

Fill in the form on this page. It takes a few minutes. You need a resume and a one to two minute video of yourself, recorded on Loom, YouTube, Google Drive or anything similar. We read every application and we cannot consider one without the video.
