Job description

McCabe Promotional Advertising is one of Canada’s largest (and many say the country’s funnest) branded merchandise agencies. With offices in London and Ottawa, we source, design, and deliver merchandise ideas for some of the country’s coolest brands. We tailor solutions for people who work with us and help them drive awareness, engagement, and loyalty for their brands.

Founded in 1981, we've got the wisdom of a company with a rich history but a pulse on what's fresh and exciting. We know what gets people talking, what earns a positive reaction, and what delivers real results. We proudly became officially B Corp Certified in 2019 and truly believe that little by little, we can create meaningful connections using branded merchandise. We are passionate about how to BE AWESOME and we want our people, our vendor partners, and our clients to feel that same passion.

We're looking for an awesome person to join our amazing team as a Business Development Manager. This is not a transactional sales role; it's a strategic position focused on building our company's market share and establishing relationships with high-impact clients. You'll be the architect of our future growth, responsible for generating a pipeline not just for yourself, but for our entire sales team. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with a proven track record of securing new business and building long-term, high-value partnerships.

What you’ll do:

  • Build and manage a robust sales pipeline for yourself and the team by identifying, prospecting, and qualifying high-impact new clients through cold outreach, networking, and strategic research.
  • Act as a strategic partner to prospective clients, collaborating with them to develop promotional strategies and campaigns that align with their brand and marketing goals. This is a long-term strategic relationship, not a quick one-off sale.
  • Lead the entire new business sales cycle, from initial contact and needs analysis through to proposal, negotiation, and closing.
  • Document and define project scope after a needs analysis is complete, asking the right questions to ensure a successful handoff to our customer service team for order execution.
  • Grow the company's market share and bring in new business, while meeting or exceeding key performance indicators (KPIs) like new business development targets and sales targets.

Things you’re great at:

  • A "solution-focused mindset". In this role, that means you're a creative problem-solver who can identify a prospective client’s needs and challenges and present unique branded merchandise solutions that drive results.
  • Creating meaningful connections. You have a talent for building rapport and trust with people, turning initial conversations into lasting, high-impact business relationships.
  • Exceptional prospecting abilities and a proven track record of generating your own leads and building a pipeline from scratch.
  • Strategic thinking, with a knack for identifying and pursuing high-impact clients that fit our company's values and growth goals.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to engage in public speaking and deliver compelling presentations. You should be able to navigate complex organizational structures to find and influence the right decision-makers.
  • Relationship building and marketing knowledge, with a deep understanding of how to align promotional products with a client's brand strategy.
  • Order management knowledge, including the ability to ask the right questions to define project scope and document key details.
  • Proficiency with general CRM systems, Google Workspace / Microsoft Suite, and sales intelligence platforms like LinkedIn. Experience with AI tools for prospecting is a strong asset.

While a background in the promotional products industry is a plus, it is not required. We are more interested in a candidate with great relationship-building skills and a passion for helping clients succeed. We expect a ramp-up period of 3-6 months, depending on your experience level.

At McCabe, we pride ourselves on a supportive and collaborative culture where working hard and having fun go hand in hand. We believe that delivering superior client experiences is best achieved when our team feels supported, respected, and balanced. That’s why we foster an environment where creativity and teamwork thrive, ensuring everyone feels valued and empowered.

Perks for being awesome:

  • Competitive compensation, with base salary plus commission structure based on sales performance;
  • Extended health benefits plan;
  • RRSP matching option;
  • Flexible time-away and remote work policy to support work-life balance.

McCabe is an equal-opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment where all employees feel valued and respected. We recognize that talent comes in many forms. If you meet most of the requirements, but not all, we still encourage you to apply!

Fine Print! We’re currently in connection mode! This posting is designed to help us build our future talent pipeline. While we may not have an immediate opening today, we are always looking for the next superstar to join the McCabe team. If you have what it takes to BE AWESOME, we’re excited to meet you. Apply today to join our talent community and let’s start the conversation!
