Job description

About CURA

CURA is a Canadian climate technology company working to change how one of the world’s most essential materials is made. Cement is responsible for approximately 8% of global CO₂ emissions. Our mission is to eliminate those emissions by becoming the default technology for cement production everywhere.

Our electrochemical process splits limestone into lime and a pure stream of CO₂ for storage or use, with the potential to reduce emissions by up to 85% while lowering energy use and manufacturing costs. Designed to be retrofit-ready, it integrates with existing feedstocks, infrastructure and operations. CURA is working toward bringing a 30,000-tonne-per-year commercial demonstration facility online in 2028.

Led by experienced climate technology founders, we collaborate with cement producers, engineers, researchers and industry partners around the world to move breakthrough technology from the lab to industrial scale. We are building a team of curious scientists, inventive engineers and practical problem-solvers who enjoy tackling big challenges together. We combine scientific rigour with an entrepreneurial culture that values collaboration, creativity, learning, and fun.

Safety is fundamental to how we work. CURA maintains a strong safety culture, and every team member completes occupational health and safety orientation and role-specific training.

The Role

CURA is commercializing an electrochemical pre-calcination carbon capture technology for low-carbon cement production, moving from pilot deployment toward commercial-scale projects. The Business Development Manager will own the external-facing commercial strategy for this transition by building and structuring partnerships across the cement, construction, and industrial infrastructure value chain, and shaping the deal and financing pathways that enable projects to move from pilot to full commercial scale. This role is central to translating CURA's technical progress into bankable, partnered commercial projects and will work closely with finance, technical, and executive leadership to align commercial strategy with capital planning.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Business and Commercialization Leadership

  • Develop and build CURA’s commercial engine, including our sales process, funnel of qualified leads, and closing process.

  • Identify, cultivate, and manage strategic partnerships with cement producers, construction firms, and industrial infrastructure players

  • Structure and negotiate bilateral agreements and joint venture arrangements to support project execution

  • Convert early‑stage partnership frameworks into binding commercial agreements by driving the progression from MOUs to definitive contracts

  • Work with the CEO, COO and CTO to develop and drive CURA's commercialization roadmap, aligning partnership and deployment milestones with financing needs

  • Support capital planning and fundraising readiness by ensuring commercial agreements and partnership terms are structured for investor, lender, and strategic partner diligence

  • Collaborate with financial/project finance advisors to align commercial deal structures with financing strategy, capital stack development, and risk mitigation

  • Represent CURA in discussions with strategic partners, investors, and potential lenders on commercial and partnership matters

  • Benchmark partnership and commercialization approaches against comparable industrial or climate technology projects

  • Contribute commercial input to investor and partner materials, including partnership structures and go-to-market/deployment strategy

  • Support both near-term pilot project partnerships and long-term commercial scale-up planning

  • Other duties as required to achieve CURA’s milestones

  • Safety & Documentation

  • Must demonstrate attention to safe work practices

  • Collaboration & Communication

  • Must work well in a team setting and effectively collaborate across an interdisciplinary team

  • Results oriented with strong interpersonal, and communication/presentation skills

  • Effectively communicate outcomes and provide recommendations for further development to the management team

  • Demonstrated aptitude for problem solving, troubleshooting, collaboration, and innovation

  • Responsibly identify and manage IP, and communicate it to management, internal team members, and external stakeholders

  • Leadership & External Relations

  • Must be a self-starter and able to work independently or multiple competing priorities

  • Manage relationships with external stakeholders, such as vendors, suppliers, and partners

  • Excellent organizational, project, and time management capabilities

  • Contribute to a culture of honesty, transparency, innovation, and safety

QUALIFICATIONS

    Required:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree required, typically in business, engineering, finance, economics, or a related field; MBA or advanced technical/policy degree preferred

  • 8-12 years of total professional experience, including 5+ years directly in business development, commercial partnerships, or project development, ideally within energy, industrials, infrastructure, or climate technology

  • Experience at a venture-backed or growth-stage company strongly preferred

  • Exposure to project finance, structured deals, or infrastructure transactions is a plus, given the close linkage between commercial and financing workstreams in this role

  • Demonstrated experience in business development, commercial partnerships, or project development within climate technology, industrial decarbonization, energy, manufacturing, or process industries

  • Track record structuring and negotiating commercial agreements, partnerships, or joint ventures, ideally in project-based or infrastructure contexts

  • Familiarity with pilot-to-commercial scale project development

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders (partners, investors, lenders, internal technical teams)

  • Comfort operating in a fast-moving startup environment with evolving priorities

  • Nice to Have:

  • Experience in cement, chemical, or other industrial sectors

  • Experience with first-of-a-kind (FOAK) project commercialization or financing

  • Background in cleantech commercialization

  • Familiarity with electrochemical and/or industrial process technologies

  • Working knowledge of government funding programs and the climate finance ecosystem, sufficient to align commercial deal terms with grant, debt, and equity financing pathways

  • Experience preparing commercial/partnership materials for investor or lender diligence processes

WHAT WE OFFER

  • Competitive salary and early-stage equity stock options

  • Generous vacation policy and a flexible, mission-driven culture

  • A chance to make a measurable impact on global climate solutions

  • Additional Information

This is a hybrid position with employees expected to work a minimum of three days per week at CURA’s primary Calgary work location and offering the flexibility to work from home other days. Employees who prefer to work on site full time are welcome to do so, Monday through Friday.
