Job description

Opportunity Snapshot

We’re hiring a DevOps Team Lead to lead our DevOps team's day-to-day planning and delivery while staying hands-on in the engineering work. You'll bring clarity to priorities and ownership, help engineers navigate blockers, and keep work moving. This is a team lead role, not a people management position.

Alongside your own engineering contributions, you'll help the team set realistic plans, resolve dependencies, and follow through on shared commitments. Your work will span cloud infrastructure, reliability, shared platforms, and the tools and workflows our engineering teams use to build, test, and release software. You'll also help evolve our environments, automation, and deployment safeguards to support the growing use of AI agents in software development.

You’ll partner with engineering leadership, developers, and test specialists to shape priorities, address recurring operational challenges, and deliver lasting improvements. Through technical guidance, mentoring, and effective team practices, you’ll help engineers grow and take greater ownership of their work.

Your Impact

  • Lead infrastructure initiatives through discovery, planning, implementation, rollout, and ongoing operation, working with product teams to define outcomes and responsibilities.
  • Design and implement improvements to cloud infrastructure, shared platforms, automation, and delivery workflows. Use AI agents in your engineering work, verify their outputs, and take ownership of the results.
  • Establish effective team practices that keep priorities clear, surface blockers early, and balance planned delivery with operational needs.
  • Help shape the DevOps roadmap with engineering leadership and partner teams, balancing developer needs, reliability, maintenance, and longer-term improvements.
  • Stay close to work across the team, proactively address unclear ownership or stalled progress, and coordinate dependencies. Follow through on agreed actions and communicate risks and tradeoffs so teams can make informed decisions and maintain realistic commitments.
  • Provide technical guidance through design discussions, code and infrastructure reviews, pairing, and hands-on troubleshooting.
  • Strengthen operational readiness through reliable monitoring, incident coordination, recovery practices, and shared documentation. Improve deployment validation and rollback to support more frequent releases with less manual intervention, and participate in the team's on-call rotation.
  • Mentor engineers, provide constructive feedback, and participate in hiring and onboarding to strengthen the team’s capabilities.

Role Requirements

  • Typically 5+ years of hands-on experience in DevOps, cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, SRE, or related engineering work, with ownership of systems through implementation and ongoing operation. The depth and breadth of your experience matter more than years alone.
  • At least 1 year of demonstrated experience providing technical leadership and coordinating delivery within an infrastructure team, including clarifying scope, managing dependencies, and communicating risks.
  • Strong hands-on experience designing and operating cloud infrastructure, with a strong understanding of networking, access controls, scalable web application architecture, and operational reliability. AWS experience is preferred.
  • Experience implementing and maintaining infrastructure as code and automation, with attention to testing, review, safe rollout, and maintainability.
  • Experience improving CI/CD pipelines and release workflows, including deployment validation, rollback, and recovery.
  • Practical experience using AI coding tools or agents, evaluating their outputs, and improving instructions, checks or workflows based on results, along with a willingness to experiment, learn, and share effective practices.
  • Hands-on experience with container platforms and observability tools, with the technical judgment to guide design decisions and troubleshoot problems across applications and infrastructure.
  • A track record of investigating recurring operational problems and delivering improvements that reduce failures, manual effort, or repeated support needs.
  • Ability to facilitate planning and prioritization, balance competing demands, and build agreement with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Clear communication and demonstrated experience helping engineers develop through mentoring, feedback, pairing, and knowledge sharing.

Our environment includes AWS, Cloudflare, GitLab CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, CDK, CloudFormation, Terraform, and Grafana. Relevant experience with comparable tools is valuable; you don't need to be an expert in every tool listed.

What We Offer

  • Hybrid work environment (2 in-office days per week)
  • 4 weeks of annual vacation & paid time off for office holiday closures
  • RRSP matching
  • $2,000 annual health & lifestyle spending account
  • $1,000 annual education budget
  • $1,000 annual charitable donation matching
  • Comprehensive benefits: extended health, critical illness, long-term disability & life insurance
  • Company-issued MacBook & home office budget
  • Anniversary rewards & complimentary Pixieset premium account
  • Team-building activities & company-wide events
  • A workplace recognized for excellence — proudly certified as a Great Place to Work™, ranked among Canada’s Best Workplaces,™ and named one of Canada’s Top Small & Medium Employers

The typical salary range for this position is CAD $117,800 - $160,650 annually. Salary offered will be based on skills, experience and market data.
