WHO WE ARE
The Lawen Group | DEXEL | Paramount is deeply rooted in community values with a shared vision that each property shapes the future of Halifax for generations to come. We offer a cohesive team of more than 75 members providing design, construction, and property management services across Halifax, Nova Scotia.
DEXEL is the design-build arm of Lawen Group, a family-founded real estate group building in Halifax since 1972. DEXEL Developments builds, DEXEL Architecture designs in-house, and our sister company Paramount Management manages our portfolio of about 2,000 homes and growing.
We design, build, own and manage our buildings, so quality is not a slogan. We keep what we build, which is why we build it right.
OUR CULTURE
Ours is a collaborative team that focuses on quality of work and community vibe, where professionalism meets passion. We pride ourselves on being a family firm that operates exclusively in Halifax, for over 50 years. We believe in continual learning, fostering a tight-knit work family, pushing to our potential, embracing humility, honoring our community, and getting the job done.
LIVE IN HALIFAX
Ocean at your door, a real community, a short commute, and home ownership still within reach compared with Toronto or Vancouver. Halifax passed 515,000 people in 2025, and your work will help shape its skyline.
THE OPPORTUNITY
You will lead how our buildings get built. Two 30-storey towers are underway on Spring Garden Road, along with the restoration of heritage buildings on Carlton Street. You take each project from mobilization to turnover: the schedule, the cost-to-complete, the trades, the quality and the safety of everyone on site.
This is a working leader’s role, based on site, and one of two directors reporting to the President and CEO. Preconstruction hands you each project against a written checklist, and you accept it or send it back. They stay with you through the build, answering RFIs and buying any open trade packages, so your team can focus on building.
WHAT YOU WILL OWN
• Delivery of each project from mobilization through commissioning, closeout and turnover, including recovery plans when the schedule slips
• Project costs, commitments and the monthly cost-to-complete forecast you report to the CEO
• Site safety: the safety program, OHS compliance and the authority to stop work when safety is at risk
• The site team: the Project Manager and the General Site Superintendent report to you and work as peers
• Contracts, changes and trade performance, with every trade held to the same standard, including our self-perform trades
• Quality, deficiency closeout, the warranty plan and a clean turnover to our property management team
• The handover from Preconstruction, and the lessons learned that make the next project better
WHAT YOU BRING
• Ten or more years leading multi-residential construction, including high-rise delivery in a senior, accountable role
• Schedule and budget you owned on projects of $50 million or more
• OHS leadership and working knowledge of Nova Scotia safety law: you run the safety system
• Credibility with superintendents and project managers alike
• Commercial discipline on contracts, changes and forecasting, and the habit of documenting first
• A quality obsession, because we keep what we build, and a teacher’s instinct: you build people and systems, not just buildings
NICE TO HAVE
• A degree or diploma in construction management, civil engineering or a related field
• P.Eng., CET, Gold Seal Certification (GSC) or PMP designation
• Cast-in-place concrete high-rise and formwork experience
If you meet most of these, we would still like to hear from you.
WHAT WE OFFER
• A base salary of $165,000 to $220,000, plus a bonus tied to project milestones: schedule, cost, safety and turnover quality
• Full benefits
• Direct work with a President and CEO who is a practicing P.Eng.
• Relocation support for the right candidate
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Mostly on site across our active Halifax projects, in all seasons, with office time for schedule, cost and safety reporting. Occasional evening or weekend work.
