Data Steward

Price Electronics, a division of Price Industries · Winnipeg, Manitoba

DEPARTMENT Software Engineering

LOCATION Winnipeg, MB (on-site)

EMPLOYMENT Permanent, full-time

About the role

As our Data Steward, you’ll keep the master data that runs our business in Epicor Kinetic defined, correct and ready to use: parts, revisions, BOMs, routings, customers and suppliers, and the transactions built on them.

You’ll join as we move from IFS to Epicor Kinetic, and your first priority is getting our data there cleanly: extracting it from IFS, cleansing and mapping it, running test conversions and proving the results before go-live.

After go-live, the job becomes keeping that data right for the long term: you'll maintain our data standards, run regular checks and fix what they find, make sure every new product, customer and supplier is set up correctly before it's used, and train the people who create data.

This is a hands-on role: you’ll do the data work yourself, using company-approved AI assistants and automation where they enable improvements in accuracy and efficiency, then bring the results to the functional managers who own each area for approval. You’ll work closely with production, engineering, supply chain, quality, sales and IT.

What you’ll do

  • Lead our data migration. Extract, cleanse and map data from IFS to Epicor Kinetic with our ERP team and Epicor’s conversion consultant; build DMT load files; run test conversions and reconcile counts and totals; prepare the decisions we need before the first load; and help decide what historical data to migrate, archive or retire.
  • Set data standards. Starting with the data our key reports and decisions depend on, draft definitions, allowed values and naming conventions for parts, manufacturer part numbers, BOMs, routings, customers, suppliers and reference data, and keep the data dictionary current.
  • Improve data quality. Profile data for completeness, accuracy and duplicates; build repeatable checks in Excel, SQL or Python; and create exception reports and quality dashboards (e.g., Kinetic BAQs).
  • Clean up records. Correct records that break approved rules, and identify and, with the owner’s approval, retire duplicate and obsolete parts, customers and suppliers.
  • Support new products. Check that parts, revisions, BOMs and routings are complete before a new build is released, and that new customers and suppliers meet setup standards before first use.
  • Resolve data issues. Log and prioritize issues by business impact, find the root cause, and fix the data or recommend the fix.
  • Keep us audit-ready. Maintain approvals, validation evidence and decision logs for critical data changes, support quality-system traceability (e.g., ISO 13485), check that access to sensitive data matches its classification, and report changes to critical fields to their owners.
  • Train and improve. Train, the people who create and maintain data, report on data quality, and recommend process and system improvements.
  • Other technical duties as assigned as our systems and products evolve.

What you bring

Required

  • Diploma or degree in information systems, data science, business, supply chain, engineering technology or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Hands-on experience with item, BOM, routing, customer and supplier data in a manufacturing ERP, including bulk data loads with import templates or tools.
  • ERP data migration or implementation experience, including at least one conversion from a legacy system.
  • Working knowledge of part revisions, BOMs, routings and engineering change control.
  • Advanced Excel (lookups, pivot tables, Power Query) and SQL or Python for querying, deduplicating and validating data.
  • Strong attention to detail, and the confidence to push back on non-compliant data and escalate when needed.
  • Strong technical communication skills: able to write clear data standards, procedures and issue reports, and explain data problems and their business impact to engineering, production, supply chain, quality, sales and IT.
  • Practical experience using AI assistants (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT) and automating repetitive work (e.g., scripts, scheduled checks, Power Automate), with the judgment to check the output and protect sensitive data.

Nice to have

  • 2+ years in master data management, data stewardship or data quality, ideally in manufacturing or electronics.
  • Experience with Epicor Kinetic or Epicor ERP 10 (including DMT, BAQs and BPMs) or IFS.
  • Python with pandas for repeatable checks; Kinetic REST API experience is a plus.
  • Experience in contract electronics manufacturing (EMS) or a regulated quality environment (ISO 13485, ISO 9001, AS9100).
  • Power BI, Azure DevOps or Jira.
  • DAMA CDMP or another data management certification.
