Job description

Knak is a mission-driven company

Why? Because our time is limited, our competition is fierce, and our margin for error is small. To have the biggest impact on the world, we stay focused on our core mission, which is...

Empowering marketers to be creative.

That’s why Knak exists.

In a world where AI has made everyone a creator, Knak helps marketers turn ideas into on-brand, high-performing campaigns at scale. The world's most AI-forward companies, including Meta, OpenAI, NVIDIA, Vercel, Notion and Stripe, use Knak as their agentic marketing production layer.

Here's what they and our investor Insight Partners figured out: creation got easy, but that’s making production harder. Every new idea and brief still has to be built, versioned, checked, approved, and shipped across every channel, and that work runs on handoffs, review cycles, and a lot of copy-paste. That middle stretch of the marketing stack has no system, no standard, and no owner.

Knak is the flexible factory for that work. Our customers set the brand rules, choose the tools that feed in and the platforms that send, and decide where AI does the work and where people do. We handle the repeatable parts, so marketers get their time back for the parts that aren't.

We're built by marketers, for marketers. We started with email because it's the hardest channel to get right and where many campaigns win or lose. Now we're bringing that same production discipline to every channel our customers use.

The Role: Intermediate Software Developer, Editor

We're looking for a full-stack developer to join the team behind Knak's editor, where marketers design on-brand emails and landing pages without writing code. It's a complex, stateful application: a structured document model, a canvas that renders it live, reusable and lockable modules, translations, version history, and realtime collaboration so whole teams can build together.

You'll build and ship features across the whole editor, from the Vue canvas and attribute panels down to the Laravel APIs that persist every change, and own them end to end: scoping the work, choosing the approach, testing it and seeing it through to production. Every feature has to behave correctly when several people, and increasingly AI agents, edit the same asset at once, so you'll work alongside our realtime collaboration engine (a CRDT-based sync layer running on Cloudflare Workers and Durable Objects) and grow your depth in it over time. You'll work closely with senior engineers, product, design and QA, make implementation-level decisions within your area, and contribute to architecture discussions.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Build the editor: Design and ship features across our Vue 3 and TypeScript editor, including the canvas, attribute panels, undo/redo, selection, modules and locks, and translations, with attention to correctness and performance on large, complex designs.
  • Build for realtime collaboration: Make sure the features you ship behave correctly when several people are editing at once, and contribute fixes and improvements to our multi-user editing engine (CRDTs, WebSockets, and Cloudflare Workers with Durable Objects) alongside senior engineers.
  • Extend the document model: Add to the structured document format behind every asset, and the pipeline that turns it into production-ready email and landing-page HTML, following established patterns.
  • Support AI-driven editing: Help build the operations that let AI agents edit designs through the same model and sync layer as people.
  • Build reliable APIs: Develop and maintain the Laravel (PHP) APIs and persistence behind the editor, with solid tests and sensible error handling.
  • Own your work in production: Roll out changes safely behind feature flags, monitor them, and debug issues from the browser through the edge to the database, escalating cross-system problems when needed.
  • Keep quality high: Apply the right mix of unit, integration and end-to-end tests, give and receive constructive code reviews, and improve the areas you touch through incremental refactoring.
  • Collaborate: Work with product, design, QA and DevOps to clarify requirements, break features into well-scoped tasks, and flag edge cases, dependencies and risks early.

What You Should Bring

  • 3+ years of software development experience, including full-stack work
  • Hands-on experience with TypeScript and a modern frontend framework (Vue 3 preferred), including reactivity and state management
  • Interest in, or experience with, complex, stateful web applications such as design tools, page builders, or rich-text or canvas editors
  • A product mindset: you care about the marketers using the editor, ask questions when a requirement doesn't seem right for them, and judge your work by whether it solves their problem, not just by whether it shipped
  • A hands-on approach to AI in your own workflow, using coding agents and AI tools every day to move faster, while understanding and owning every change they produce and spotting output that's wrong or overbuilt
  • Strong web fundamentals: JavaScript, HTML, CSS, the DOM and browser performance
  • Backend experience with PHP/Laravel or a comparable framework, plus MySQL
  • Experience with automated testing and CI/CD (e.g. Vitest or Jest, Playwright, GitHub Actions)
  • Clear written communication and comfort giving and receiving code review feedback

Nice to Have

  • Experience with realtime features such as WebSockets, presence and reconnection
  • Exposure to collaborative editing technology (CRDTs or OT, e.g. Yjs, Automerge, Loro)
  • Experience with edge or serverless runtimes (Cloudflare Workers, Durable Objects, AWS Lambda)
  • Email HTML rendering or cross-client compatibility experience
  • Prior experience in a fast-growing SaaS company

Base Salary

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $100,000 – $125,000/year. Final compensation will be determined based on factors including relevant experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity. This range reflects base salary only and does not include other forms of compensation that may be available as part of the total rewards package.
