Job description

Why BCAA?

Feel proud of what you do and help shape the future of BC at a BC Top Employer. We’re driven by purpose – delivering peace of mind to one in three BC households with insurance, roadside assistance, auto repair, Evo Car Share and Evolve E-Bike Share. With a long history of keeping roads safe and giving back in ways that build stronger communities, we offer a wide variety of meaningful, rewarding careers that move BC forward.

We are currently hiring an IS Security Architect based in our Head Office.

As the IS Security Architect, you will be the enterprise security architecture authority for major technology initiatives and platforms. You will help shape and advance BCAA’s security capabilities across cloud, identity, network, and application domains.

In this role, you will provide strategic technical planning, architecture guidance, and design expertise while partnering closely with business and IS teams to protect BCAA’s assets and enable secure delivery of business priorities. You will also serve as a trusted escalation point for the security team, offering technical leadership, mentoring, and practical guidance on complex security challenges.

Who you are

  • You’re a consensus builder and a problem-solver who drives innovation to meet business objectives.
  • You understand that business strategy drives technology innovation.
  • You don't look only for problems to solve but you also bring alternatives to address a challenge while improving the company's security maturity.
  • You first try to understand why things are the way they are and then adjust the course of action based on risk and business impact.
  • You have demonstrated excellence with business and technical requirements analysis, business process modeling/mapping, and methodology development.
  • Your exceptional communication skills allow you to translate technical language for non-technical audiences and translate business language for non-business audiences.
  • You have a keen eye for detail and excellent listening, analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • You’re as comfortable leading and mentoring a team as you are being an individual contributor.
  • You're a team player where you thrive in a collaborative, team-oriented environment and enjoy partnering with others to achieve shared goals.

What you’ll do

  • Develop, document and maintain an enterprise security architecture framework, ensuring it aligns with business objectives and industry standards.
  • Lead Zero Trust architecture design and implementation across identity, device, network, and application control planes.
  • Architect and drive adoption of SASE/SSE solutions (SWG, CASB, ZTNA, DLP) to close visibility gaps across enterprise applications.
  • Provide technical leadership and collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate security requirements into the software development lifecycle.
  • Align solutions with PCI DSS, NIST CSF, and internal risk frameworks through practical architectural controls.
  • Design and enhance security logging and monitoring architecture, including SIEM pipelines and log ingestion strategies.
  • Investigate security incidents and collaborate on post-incident reviews, offering recommendations for remediation and prevention.
  • Lead adoption of emerging AI-enabled security paradigms to strengthen BCAA’s security posture.

What you bring

  • CISSP, Undergraduate in Computer Science, Applicable Certifications or Diploma.
  • 10+ years of working in a security-focused role with a minimum of 3 years of architectural experience.
  • Demonstrated experience designing Zero Trust and SASE/SSE architectures.
  • Strong understanding of identity-centric security (Entra ID, IAM, PAM).
  • Experience with cloud security architecture tooling (CSPM, CWPP, SSPM).
  • Experience making architecture trade-off decisions in high-stakes environments.
  • Experience providing technical incident response and operational support to engineering teams.
  • Proven track record acting as a lead architect across complex enterprise initiatives.
  • Knowledge of system design and architectural frameworks such as TOGAF, SABSA, ESA is a plus.
  • Proven excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and with other team members.
  • Ability to create systems and consistent procedures and processes in both technical and user-friendly language.
  • Proven ability to be proactive when dealing with issues and challenges.
  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent multi-taking and organizational skills.

The salary range for this position is $138,192.36 to $172,740.48 and is determined via job-related knowledge, skills, experience, certifications, market demand and internal equity. In addition to base salary and BCAA benefits, this position is eligible for a performance bonus target of 9%, with the opportunity to earn up to 15%.

Please note that this is a hybrid role based out of our Burnaby, BC office (3 on-site / 2 remote days).
