Job description

Kitchen Helper- Prep Cook/Line Cook/Dishwasher

Rosemont Hospitality – Rosemont, ON
Full-Time

Compensation: Starting at $17.95/per hour based on experience.

About the Role

We are looking for a dependable, hardworking, and flexible Kitchen Helper to join our kitchen team.

This is a hands-on, all-around kitchen position for someone who is comfortable helping wherever needed. The Kitchen Helper will support food preparation, assist with line cooking and service, wash dishes and kitchen equipment, and help keep the kitchen clean, organized, and ready for service.

The ideal candidate is a team player who understands that a successful kitchen depends on everyone pitching in. On one shift you may spend more time preparing ingredients, another may require supporting the line during a busy service period, and at other times the priority may be dishes, cleaning, or restocking.

What You'll Do

Food Preparation

  • Assist with daily food preparation, including washing, peeling, chopping, slicing, portioning, and organizing ingredients.
  • Prepare ingredients and basic menu components according to recipes and instructions.
  • Label, date, store, and rotate food products appropriately.
  • Assist with receiving and putting away food and kitchen supplies.
  • Maintain organized refrigeration, freezer, dry-storage, and prep areas.
  • Follow proper food handling, storage, rotation, and FIFO (First In, First Out) practices.

Line & Kitchen Support

  • Help set up and stock kitchen stations before service.
  • Assist cooks with preparing, cooking, assembling, and plating menu items as required.
  • Support the kitchen team during busy service periods.
  • Restock ingredients, utensils, dishes, and supplies throughout service.
  • Operate kitchen equipment safely when trained and authorized to do so.
  • Communicate shortages, food-quality concerns, or equipment issues to the Chef or Kitchen Manager.
  • Help ensure orders are prepared accurately and efficiently.

Dishwashing & Cleaning

  • Wash and sanitize dishes, glassware, cutlery, pots, pans, utensils, and kitchen equipment.
  • Operate and maintain the commercial dishwasher and dishwashing area.
  • Return clean dishes, cookware, and equipment to the appropriate storage areas.
  • Keep dishwashing, prep, storage, and kitchen areas clean and organized.
  • Clean counters, work surfaces, appliances, equipment, and other kitchen areas.
  • Sweep and mop floors and assist with garbage, recycling, and waste removal.
  • Complete routine and end-of-shift cleaning duties.
  • Help maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen throughout the shift.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a restaurant, kitchen, foodservice, or similar environment is preferred.
  • Experience with food preparation, line cooking, dishwashing, or a combination of these responsibilities is an asset.
  • Comfortable working in a busy, fast-paced kitchen.
  • Willingness to perform all areas of kitchen work, including food prep, cooking support, dishwashing, cleaning, and restocking.
  • Strong commitment to cleanliness and food safety.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Able to follow recipes, instructions, and established kitchen procedures.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical kitchen duties.
  • Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Food Handler Certification or willingness to obtain it.
  • Previous Prep Cook, Line Cook, Kitchen Helper, Dishwasher, or similar foodservice experience.
  • Experience using commercial kitchen equipment.

What Makes Someone Successful in This Role

You don't need to be focused on one kitchen station or one job title. What matters most is being willing and able to jump in where the kitchen needs you.

You'll be successful if you:

  • Take initiative instead of waiting to be asked.
  • Keep your work area clean and organized.
  • Move comfortably between prep, line support, dishes, and cleaning.
  • Stay productive during slower periods.
  • Work with a sense of urgency when service gets busy.
  • Support your teammates and understand that every kitchen task contributes to a successful service.
  • Take pride in doing the behind-the-scenes work that keeps the kitchen running smoothly.

Work Environment

This position works in a fast-paced commercial kitchen with exposure to heat, noise, food, water, and kitchen equipment. The role involves regular standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, cleaning, and repetitive movement.

Commitment to Diversity, Inclusion, Accessibility & Anti-Racism

Rosemont Hospitality is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace where everyone is respected and valued for their contributions and has opportunity to grow and develop. Rosemont Hospitality will provide accommodation throughout the recruitment process upon request. If you require accommodation, please notify us and we will work with you to meet your needs.
