Full company description

Stride Credit Union operates five branches across eight communities in the Central Plains region; Austin, Gladstone, MacGregor, Neepawa, and Portage la Prairie. We offer a complete line of financial products and services for any and every kind of member, from personal (new and experienced) to business owners and the farming community. Our primary objective is to provide friendly, personalized, professional financial services and fair pricing to our members at all times. What's best for our communities and what's best for Stride are the same things: a strong and growing local economy, opportunities for young people, healthy neighbourhoods and modern facilities for recreation and leisure. Every decision, whether about rates, services, fees, hours, staff levels, sponsorship spending, you name it - is made right here, on Royal Road, not on Bay Street. When we say we're committed to our community, we mean it. We have to be, because our owners and members live here. We want to be, because our staff and Board live here, too. This is our home.

  • Assess credit applications by analyzing quantitative information, such as financial statements, risk models and banking system data, alongside qualitative factors such as market and economic conditions
  • Support the development, review and continuous refinement of credit risk policies, including the credit concentration policy and lending policy
  • Minimize lending risks through diligent and proactive financial reviews and an awareness of changing economic and industry trends
  • Review, challenge and provide recommendations on significant credit exposures, policy exceptions and emerging portfolio risks
  • Provide practical credit risk advice and respectfully challenge perspectives, enabling informed credit decisions that balance member needs, portfolio quality and organization objectives.
  • Recognize and communicate cross-sell and referrals opportunities identified in credit applications

  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of collection activities; holding the department accountable for results while identifying opportunities for continuous improvement
  • Proactively identify emerging risks and recommend actions to mitigate
  • Develop annual plans, departmental goals, and accountability frameworks that align with organizational priorities and drive measurable outcomes
  • Lead, coach, and develop team members fostering a high-performance and continuously improving culture

Who we are looking for:

  • You have post-secondary education plus 7-9 years of job-related experience, or an equivalent combination of education or experience
  • You are an experienced credit risk leader who balances prudent risk management with practical member focused solutions
  • You have a sound understanding of credit union policies, regulatory requirements and prudent lending practices
  • You have excellent communication, relationship building, analytical and decision making skills
