*This is an existing vacancy
We're hiring full-stack engineers who decide what to build, not just how to build it. You'll own a product area from problem to launch: talk to customers, write the brief, prototype fast, test it with users, and take what works to production. You'll work with Product, Design, and legal experts, and you're expected to bring your own point of view on what matters.
Responsibilities
Own a product area end to end: Take it from a fuzzy problem to a scoped plan, a prototype, an iteration loop, and a production launch. Measure whether it worked.
Run product discovery: Talk to lawyers and internal experts, write briefs, propose hypotheses, and prototype to test them. Say no to ideas that don't hold up.
Build across the stack: Design, ship, and maintain features across React, Node services, and AI inference.
Build LLM-powered features: Work with models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and others, including evaluations, prompt and agent orchestration, and safety.
Work with coding agents: Use them every day, and help set the team's standards for them. Keep security, correctness, and maintainability high while moving faster.
Own quality and reliability: Improve performance, observability, and reliability. Triage issues, write tests, review code, and close the loop with users.
Qualifications
5+ years building and shipping production software, with a firm grasp of the fundamentals.
Clear communication. You can explain and advocate for your ideas to engineers, designers, and lawyers.
You've taken a feature from a vague idea to a prototype to customers' hands. You can walk us through the calls you made and what users taught you.
Product sense. You've changed scope, cut a feature, or pushed back on a plan, and can explain what happened.
Full-stack depth, with TypeScript and React on the front end and Node on the back end.
Regular use of coding agents or other AI tools, with concrete examples of how they changed your speed or quality.
You step in when things break, and you look for ways to improve how the team works.
Nice to haves
Experience with design systems, UX writing, or accessibility.
Experience running user interviews, prototype tests, or A/B tests.
Experience in a small startup or another role with broad ownership.
Experience building LLM features, evaluations, or agent workflows.
Tech Stack
OpenAI, Anthropic, and other large language models (LLMs), React, Node, TypeScript, MongoDB, Docker, AWS, CDK, tRPC
This role is not subject to Ontario's salary range disclosure requirement, as total compensation exceeds the threshold set out in the exemption. We're happy to discuss compensation details directly with candidates as the process progresses.

We are committed to upholding principles of fairness, transparency, and accountability in all hiring activities. Spellbook regularly reviews its recruitment practices to mitigate bias and to ensure alignment with applicable laws and evolving best practices.
Our Compensation Philosophy
Spellbook uses industry benchmark data to establish compensation bands for all roles. The salary range listed for a position reflects the expected total wage range for the role—including base salary and on-target commissions, where applicable—and may span multiple career levels. Final compensation is determined during the interview process based on factors such as experience, skills, scope, and role level. In addition to base salary and applicable commissions, total rewards may include equity, health and wellness benefits, and other company programs. Full details will be shared during the interview process.
