Who We Are

Cementation is a leading underground mine contracting and engineering company-we design and build mines, safely. Our team specializes in delivering design-build solutions for technically complex projects, with a strong track record in world-class shaft sinking and mine development.

Collaboration is at the core of everything we do. We foster a culture where respect is foundational, innovation is encouraged, and safety is never compromised.

At Cementation, we value experience and are inspired by potential.

Project Opportunity

Cementation is supporting NexGen's shaft sinking project, a major underground construction undertaking that will require disciplined planning, coordination, and control as the work progresses. This is an opportunity to help build and maintain the project controls systems that keep the team informed about performance, emerging changes, and the work ahead.

As Project Controls Lead, you'll coordinate cost, schedule, change, and reporting activities across the project controls team. You'll support clear handovers, coach team members, and help project leaders get accurate, timely information for decisions.

Purpose of the role

The Project Controls Lead provides day-to-day leadership to the project controls team. The role coordinates cost, schedule, change, and reporting activities; supports continuity between shifts; and reviews control information for accuracy and decision-readiness. Working under the direction of the Project Controls Manager, the Lead raises material issues and supports project leadership with clear analysis and reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Controls Coordination

  • Support implementation and day-to-day application of the Project Controls Management Plan in alignment with corporate, project, and client standards.
  • Lead the following activities to ensure consistent application of project standards for:
    • Cost control and forecasting
    • Schedule development and progress measurement
    • Change management and trend control
    • Performance reporting and data governance
  • Ensure alignment and integration between project controls systems and:
    • Engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities
    • Finance, accounting, and commercial functions
  • Coordinate with the Project Controls Manager on interfaces with client project controls, assurance, and audit teams, ensuring transparent and consistent support.
  • Identify process or data issues that could affect the accuracy, timeliness, or usefulness of project controls information, and raise them with the Project Controls Manager.
  • Ensure control systems are scalable, auditable, and fit‑for‑purpose for the size and complexity of the project.

Cost Management & Forecasting Leadership

  • Lead cost control activities and provide day-to-day guidance to cost control resources.
  • Review cost reports, forecasts, and trend analyses for completeness and accuracy prior to escalation to the Project Controls Manager.
  • Support cost variance analysis and ensure timely identification, validation, and escalation of cost risks and opportunities during the assigned rotation.
  • Ensure cost forecasts accurately reflect scope changes, productivity performance, schedule impacts, and commercial risks.
  • Support cost-related decisions and management reporting with clear analysis.

Schedule Management & Integration

  • Provide oversight of schedule updating, logic quality, progress incorporation, and critical path review.
  • Help maintain the integrity of the integrated project schedule.
  • Coordinate schedule information with cost forecasting, progress measurement, change management, and claims analysis.
  • Identify schedule risks, float consumption, and schedule trends; escalate material impacts to the Project Controls Manager and project leadership team.
  • Ensure schedule data supports credible forecasting and decision‑making

Change Management & Commercial Controls

  • Support consistent application of the project change management process in accordance with contract and client requirements.
  • Coordinate identification, evaluation, documentation, and tracking of project changes.
  • Maintain oversight of change and trend registers, early warnings, potential claims, and commercial impact assessments.
  • Coordinate closely with commercial and project teams to support timely assessment, escalation, and documentation of change impacts.
  • Ensure approved and potential changes are reflected consistently in cost forecasts, schedules, risk information, and reports.

Reporting, Performance & Decision Support

  • Support maintenance of project reporting frameworks, KPIs, dashboards, and recurring reporting cycles.
  • Review assigned deliverables for accuracy, consistency, and completeness prior to submission to the Project Controls Manager.
  • Ensure clear linkage between cost, schedule, risk, change, and progress data.
  • Prepare concise performance narratives and exception-based updates that support project leadership decisions.
  • Ensure reports and supporting records meet client assurance, governance, and audit requirements.

Team Leadership & Capability Development

  • Lead, coach, and support project controls personnel across cost, scheduling, change, reporting, and administration functions.
  • Set clear priorities and task expectations for team members during the assigned shift or rotation.
  • Coordinate daily priorities and shift coverage with the Project Controls Manager to ensure continuity across all project controls functions.
  • Provide coaching, task direction, and performance input for assigned team members, escalating formal performance matters to the Project Controls Manager.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the controls function.

Client & Stakeholder Interface

  • Support the Project Controls Manager as required in interfaces with client project controls, assurance, and audit representatives.
  • Support project leadership during commercial, schedule, and performance discussions by providing accurate supporting data and analysis.
  • Ensure timely, professional, and transparent communication with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Represent the project controls function in management, client, and coordination forums as delegated.

Health, Safety, and Environment

  • Provide visible leadership of Cementation's HSE culture
  • Ensure project control processes (change control, schedule logic, forecasting) actively support safe and compliant execution of work.
  • Support the integration of HSE metrics into project performance dashboards and management reports in alignment with Cementation and client requirements.
