Job description

Overview

In healthcare security, some of the most critical work happens one-on-one. As a Patient Watch Security Officer, you play a vital role in protecting vulnerable hospital patients who may present a danger to themselves or others. Your presence provides continuous observation, calm support, and safety while allowing medical professionals to focus on providing clinical care.

This full-time role serves healthcare facilities in the Barrhead, Westlock, and surrounding regional areas. We provide fully paid specialty training to help you succeed, competitive hourly pay, travel mileage reimbursement, and comprehensive health benefits. If you are observant, dependable, and seeking a meaningful path in healthcare security, this is a great place to start and grow.

What Success Looks Like

On a day-to-day basis:

  • Maintain continuous visual observation of designated patients, keeping their safety, dignity, and confidentiality as your top priorities.

  • Remain alert and attentive throughout your entire shift, including sitting for extended periods during day or overnight hours.

  • Notice and immediately report any changes in patient behavior, environment, or safety risks to hospital staff and security leads.

  • Use compassionate communication and gentle de-escalation techniques to handle tense or sensitive situations safely.

  • Maintain clear, detailed daily logs of patient interactions, activities, and site incidents using radios and computer tools.

  • Screen visitors politely and professional, ensuring site rules and safety protocols are followed.

Over time:

  • Build trusted, positive relationships with doctors, nurses, hospital staff, and fellow security team members across regional sites.

  • Master healthcare safety procedures, emergency responses, and patient de-escalation practices.

  • Take advantage of ongoing training and advancement opportunities to grow your career within our organization.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Pay Rate: $23.00 per hour.

  • Travel Expenses: Mileage reimbursement at company rates when traveling to rural hospital locations outside your immediate home area.

  • Health Benefits: Comprehensive medical, dental, and life insurance coverage.

  • Time Off: Paid vacation time.

  • Paid Training: We fully cover and provide your Healthcare Security Training course and First Aid/CPR certification if you do not already have them.

Must-Have Requirements

  • Authorized to work legally in Canada.

  • Clean criminal record check.

  • Minimum 18 years of age (to meet provincial security licensing eligibility).

  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License and access to a reliable personal vehicle.

  • Willingness to travel to regional hospital sites (up to a 500 km radius within Northern Alberta rural areas) as shifts require.

  • Open schedule availability, including willingness to work day shifts, overnight shifts, weekends, and on-demand shifts on short notice.

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while staying alert and composed in dynamic hospital environments.

  • Strong communication skills in English, both spoken and written.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

  • Current First Aid and CPR Level C certification.

  • Alberta Security License or completion of Basic Security Training (BST). Note: A security license is not required prior to applying.

  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI) training.

  • Previous experience in customer service, security, healthcare, or caregiving settings.
