Job description

Job Summary:

Our finance team is expanding and we are seeking an accountant to take on the more technical areas of the books for a growing transit technology company. You should prioritize quality and be comfortable setting up processes as well as running them.
As a key member of our finance team, you will play an active role in the monthly close including revenue recognition, project accounting and inventory, all under IFRS in NetSuite. You will also take on special projects as the business grows, with exposure across Routeward and the wider Modaxo group.

Job Description:

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support the month-end close by preparing journal entries, accruals, reconciliations and related analysis for project accounting, inventory, fixed assets and intercompany, and assist in the preparation of monthly reporting packages.
  • Prepare project revenue recognition under IFRS 15, including percentage-of-completion calculations, deferred revenue and contract balance schedules, and work-in-progress (WIP) reports.
  • Maintain project accounting for multi-year transit implementations: track cost to budget, support estimate-at-completion reviews with project managers, and reconcile contract assets and liabilities.
  • Account for hardware and spares inventory, including cost flows into projects, perpetual-to-GL reconciliation, cycle counts and year-end obsolescence review.
  • Manage fixed asset accounting, including preparing and maintaining detailed continuity schedules.
  • Prepare and post intercompany transactions and complete month-end intercompany reconciliations.
  • Prepare U.S. sales and use tax filings and 1099 reporting, reconcile related accounts, resolve variances and support sales tax audits.
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations in BlackLine for project, inventory, fixed asset and intercompany accounts.
  • Prepare PBC schedules for the year-end audit and quarterly reviews, and operate key controls in the Risk Control Matrix.
  • Prepare accurate and detailed financial, project margin and other accounting reports as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (required). CPA designation desired, or working towards it.
  • 4–7 years of progressive accounting experience, including full-cycle accounting and month-end close.
  • Working knowledge of IFRS, particularly IFRS 15 revenue recognized over time and IFRS 16 leases.
  • Project accounting and WIP experience on long-term, fixed-price or milestone-based contracts.
  • NetSuite experience (SuiteProjects or ARM an asset); BlackLine and advanced Excel and experience supporting a NetSuite implementation is desired.
  • Demonstrated, hands-on use of AI tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT or Claude) in accounting work, with examples of using them to automate or speed up month-end close and day-to-day tasks such as reconciliations, variance analysis and journal entry support, while maintaining appropriate review of AI outputs.
  • Preferred: transit or transportation software experience and inventory accounting in a hardware/software business.
