Job Summary

The Senior Hardware Engineer will be a member of the Optical Engines R&D team responsible for designing pluggable optical transceiver modules for metro, core, and data center applications. The successful candidate will have proven competency in high-speed electronic design, signal integrity management, and product development throughout the complete product lifecycle.

This role will work closely with hardware, FPGA, firmware, test, and mechanical engineering teams to deliver innovative optical networking products from concept through production. Experience with simulation tools such as Ansys HFSS, Keysight ADS, and other signal integrity analysis tools is highly desirable.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop block diagrams and schematics from the initial concept phase.
  • Specify, design, test, integrate, and release new optical transceiver products to production.
  • Create Hardware Unit Design Specifications and test plans.
  • Design solutions utilizing bare-die components and advanced microelectronic assembly techniques, including wire bonding and flip-chip technologies.
  • Work closely with PCB layout engineers on complex, high-layer-count board designs.
  • Provide guidance to CAD designers throughout PCB development activities.
  • Collaborate with FPGA, firmware, and test engineering teams during product integration and validation.
  • Perform signal integrity analysis and high-speed simulations using industry-standard tools.
  • Support products through manufacturing transfer and production release activities.
  • Provide engineering support for products in production and work directly with contract manufacturing partners.
  • Work cross-functionally across R&D disciplines to meet product performance, quality, cost, and schedule objectives.
  • Complete the full product design lifecycle on portions of the system involving multiple components.
  • Work independently on assigned design activities with minimal supervision.
  • Understand product architecture, design processes, tools, and development methodologies required to perform assigned responsibilities.

Basic Qualifications

  • BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in high-speed board design.
  • Strong fundamentals in electromagnetic and RF design, including impedance matching and S-parameter analysis.
  • Experience with high-speed RF measurements and characterization techniques.
  • Experience with fiber optic testing and measurements.
  • Experience using laboratory equipment including:
    • Spectrum Analyzers
    • Network Analyzers
    • Logic Analyzers
    • Function Generators
    • BER Test Sets
