About the role
Fig is expanding beyond lending and building a new generation of digital banking products. We're hiring a Senior Mobile Engineer, reporting to the Engineering Manager of our digital banking team, to build and own the Fig banking app on iOS and Android.
You're a React Native specialist with deep experience shipping production apps, from developer tooling through to release pipelines. You're comfortable across the stack in TypeScript, having built backend services and designed APIs for mobile clients.
Our core stack includes TypeScript, NestJS, React Native (Expo), React, PostgreSQL, and AWS. We use AI for software development and are moving toward more agentic ways of working. We want engineers who'll help shape how we get there.
We're a small team, so breadth matters. You'll work closely with Product, Design, Risk, Compliance, and Operations, and help set the mobile patterns, tooling, and quality bar as we grow.
We're a small team, so breadth matters. You'll work closely with our backend engineers, our CISO, and our Risk and Compliance teams, and help set the standards and paved roads other engineers build on as we grow.
What you’ll do
Own the mobile release process end-to-end: EAS builds, App Store and Google Play submissions, OTA updates, feature flags, and staged rollouts.
Improve the mobile developer experience: local tooling, CI pipelines, and build times.
Drive app quality: performance, startup time, stability, crash-free rate, and accessibility.
Implement security-critical mobile capabilities such as biometric authentication, secure storage, device integrity checks, and session management.
Shape the APIs the app relies on, and contribute to them directly alongside backend engineers.
Partner with Design to build a shared component library and a polished, consistent user experience.
Use AI tools and agents to accelerate how we build, test, and ship.
Raise the bar through code review, testing practices, and mentoring other engineers.
Design, build, and ship features in our React Native and Expo app, from onboarding and account management to money movement.
You’ll succeed here if you have
Hands-on experience with Expo (EAS Build/Submit, OTA updates) and owning App Store and Google Play releases.
Strong React fundamentals and experience diagnosing and fixing React Native performance issues, from re-renders to native-layer bottlenecks.
Daily use of AI coding tools, with the judgment to review and validate what they produce.
The ability to make pragmatic technical decisions and communicate trade-offs clearly.
Experience using AI tools in operations work such as incident investigation, with the judgment to validate their output and keep their access tightly scoped.

Designing or building a backend-for-frontend (BFF) or API gateway layer.

Native module development in Swift or Kotlin (including Expo Modules).
Mobile testing frameworks such as Detox or Maestro, and monitoring tools such as Sentry.
Design systems, component libraries, and accessibility (WCAG).
Helping a team adopt agentic development workflows, including the context, guardrails, and review practices that make them work.
Experience building the backend services and APIs behind mobile apps, ideally in TypeScript and Node.js.
