ABOUT THE ROLE

As our Senior People Partner, you'll help build the People infrastructure that enables a fast-growing, distributed team to scale without losing what makes it special. You're energized by using AI to reimagine how People Operations is delivered, and you hold a high bar for the teams you help build to attract and retain Olympic-calibre talent.

As this is a hybrid role, you must be located in the Greater Toronto Area and are encouraged to be in the office at least 3 days per month on whatever days work best for you.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Working on a small team, you’ll have the opportunity to shape the direction of this role based on your strengths, interests and career aspirations. You’ll need to demonstrate strength in 3 of the following 5 People areas, in addition to the responsibilities below:

  1. Employee Relations - Serve as a trusted point of contact for employees, resolving workplace issues with empathy and prioritizing inquiries by urgency and impact

  2. Data Analytics - Track key People metrics, from quality of hire to turnover, to surface trends and inform decisions

  3. Total Rewards - Own compensation, benefits, and rewards programs in partnership with Talent that attract and retain Olympic-calibre talent

  4. Performance Management - Drive the performance review cycle, facilitate goal-setting, and guide career development conversations with leaders to effectively motivate employees

  5. Employee Engagement - Facilitate opportunities to gather employee feedback and build initiatives that strengthen employee experience and engagement

In addition, you'll:

  • Own Rippling as the single source of truth for employee records, including those employed under an international EOR or US PEO

  • Leverage AI to automate day-to-day work, and help train and manage AI agents across People systems

  • Manage and optimize the employee lifecycle, including onboarding, offboarding, benefits, relocations, immigration, and leave across multiple jurisdictions

  • Partner with local city ambassadors to coordinate co-working, in-office activities and social events across city hubs

  • Ensure People policies and practices comply with employment laws in Canada, the United States, Australia, and the United Kingdom

  • Support with other responsibilities and projects as required

QUALIFICATIONS

  • You have 5+ years of experience in a People Operations, HR Generalist, HRBP or similar role in a high-growth environment

  • You have a strong understanding of global employment law, compliance, and best practices

  • You're a forward-thinker who works independently, adapts quickly to change, and uses technology to create efficiencies

  • You're comfortable using AI tools such as ChatGPT and Claude Cowork to streamline processes and support data-driven decision-making

  • You handle sensitive issues with discretion and have a strong commitment to confidentiality

  • You have effective written and verbal communication skills, proactive and solution-focused problem-solving, and strong organizational skills

  • You have experience with HRIS platforms and remote collaboration tools such as Rippling, Slack, Zoom, Google Suite, and Notion

  • You have a proven track record of running People and Culture programs that have positively impacted culture and growth

  • You can operate at every level and partner with executive leadership as a trusted advisor and subject-matter expert

  • Willingness to work across time zones, from PST to NST and beyond

Use of Artificial Intelligence in Recruitment

Spellbook uses artificial intelligence (AI) responsibly to support administrative and efficiency-focused aspects of our recruitment process. This includes activities such as drafting job descriptions, generating interview questions, note-taking and recordings, and supporting sourcing and scheduling workflows. All candidate evaluations, interviews, and hiring decisions are made by members of the Spellbook team. While AI tools may assist with screening and assessment, they do not replace human judgment in selection decisions. Our use of AI is intended to streamline routine tasks, improve consistency, and enhance the overall candidate experience. We are committed to upholding principles of fairness, transparency, and accountability in all hiring activities. Spellbook regularly reviews its recruitment practices to mitigate bias and to ensure alignment with applicable laws and evolving best practices.

Our Compensation Philosophy

Spellbook uses industry benchmark data to establish compensation bands for all roles. The salary range listed for a position reflects the expected total wage range for the role—including base salary and on-target commissions, where applicable—and may span multiple career levels. Final compensation is determined during the interview process based on factors such as experience, skills, scope, and role level. In addition to base salary and applicable commissions, total rewards may include equity, health and wellness benefits, and other company programs. Full details will be shared during the interview process.
